Personal history
Helda was born into a noble family in Kalvak, related to the High Matron of one of the Mountain Holds.
From a young age, Helda proved driven and enthusiastic, often beyond the levels of her competence. In an attempt to drive this energy in a positive direction, her mother organised her to have military training, unusual in the family. Helda loved it, though her style was frantic and undisciplined to the frustration of her mentor. Helda demanded to be a part of the Kalvaki army, and her mother acquiesced.
She fought in a number of campaigns. In one particularly challenging skirmish, following a typical berserkeresque frenzy, Helda fell.
The next thing she remembered was appearing upon a white sea beneath a black sky. The Goddess Arawn appeared to her and made her an offer: she would heal Helda's wounds if she would return to be a 'blunt instrument of balance' for Arawn - she would heal and fight in the name of balance.
Helda quickly agreed. Perhaps too quickly. She returned to her healed body and finished the battle, returning home as the sole survivor.
Having been the sole survivor of the battle isolated her among her people - either through accusations of blame, favoritism or negligence. From then on, she tended to seek out opportunities to take on missions alone, avoiding the whisperings of colleagues.
On a request for Kalvaki assistance, her unit was mobilised to Alagria, where Helda found herself fighting in unfamiliar desert conditions.
Whilst there, Helda received a message from her mother. It requested she travel to Ebrion as an envoy of Kalvak, to a shadowy organisation on behalf of the High Matron. Feeling the draw of Arawn, she jumped at an opportunity.
On a coach ride between Coldport and Kelador, her journey was disrupted when the coachman refused to travel through Ornblake. Helda and several other passengers agreed to walk. This is where she first met the initial members of the Thanes of Order.
Helda left the Thanes on the instructions of Arawn, to deal with a monster harassing a village. Once that was complete, she travelled in the direction the Thanes had gone, and came to Dolon where she met Elorin Felter. He informed her of the Frithgard, an organisation he was a member of. Having seen how close a member of the Obliviati had gotten, unnoticed, to his inner circle, he injected new fire into this largely quiet organisation and asked Helda to be the Hand of it in the world. Initially, she investigated Sundro Khem and is associated in Dolon to try to root out further Obliviati influence. However, on hearing of the fall of the Storm Wall and troubles in her homeland, she headed north to Vozdukh. While there, she fought in the Fae War and in defence of her dwarven family in the Kalvak Mountains during the Slave Uprising. Now that the Fae War has reached somewhat a stand-off, Felter asked Helda to travel to Milagon to contact the Thanes. She introduced them to the Frithgard with a plan to fake their deaths to buy them some more time.
