Ormad
Ormad is the Aran god of speech, writing, and knowledge. He was said to have invented the Aran alphabets, and was the patron of scribes and scholars. Ormad was also said to be the keeper of all knowledge, and his temple was a place where anyone could come to learn. Ormad was a highly revered god, and his temples were some of the most popular in all of Ara. People would come from all over to learn from his clerics, and to seek out his wisdom. Many of his followers believed that knowledge was the key to understanding and peace.
It is said that he played no part in the creation of Ara, but that he created a way to record what the others had done, and passed that knowledge to the races.
It is also said he created all the ancient languages of Ara and made them so different from each other to ensure the peoples of Ara took time to study each other. It is also said that Common was a gift bestowed upon the world by one of his clerics in a plea to improve their understanding.
Divine Domains
Ormad domains include speech, writing and academic forms of knowledge. As such, it extends that he is the patron of students, professors and libraries. He is often revered by wizards alongside and sometimes ahead of Matrixia.
His domain further covers books, paper, history, science and research. He encompasses and loves both stories and histories, fact and fiction, but insists the two are rigidly separated as such.
Artifacts
Ormad created an incredibly powerful Headband of Intellect. This item, merely jewellery to the deity himself, absorbed some of his powers whilst he wore it. It is said he lost it and it now lies hidden in the mortal realm, to be found by one worthy enough to research, investigate and follow the riddles to find it. Some say this is ironic as any clever enough to find it, wouldn't need it. Other Ormadians state that this is exactly the point.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Ormad's symbols are largely connected with writing and script. The most common is the unfurled scroll.
Other images of Ormad
Ormad is usually depicted as a wise, older man, sometimes with secrets hidden in his beard for the observer to find. He is depicted with 2 types of headwear - either his Headband of intellect, or a turban worn to 'keep his brain warm', according to followers who also choose this fashion.
