Aran Polytheism
Ara in general worships a standard pantheon across the world, with some regional variation in interpretation. There are some other deities worshipped, but these are usually minor, regional or racially specific. Theologists often assign these deities to be an element of one of the standard deities of the pantheon.
There is no one 'chief' god and their relevant importance varies between geographies and individual believers. Below is a summary of the major deities of the pantheon, the Creator Gods, and some of their associated domains. More information is contained in their associated articles.
There is one other being which has a claim to be a Creator God. This is Kek. Kek is the god of Kaos, vacuum, nothingness and unpredictable change. It is not included in the main pantheon, as it was destroyed and shattered at the creation of the world.

Demigods and other powerful beings
As well as the Gods, there are other beings of power that have appeared since the original creation. Some of these are children of the gods, others found power other ways.Ebrion | Belegond | Milagon | Ancient Alagria | Modern Alagria | Mitzu | Spice Islands | Coatl | Domains | Symbols |

Origins of Demi-Gods
Each of these powerful beings has their own origin story. Some argue others should be listed here, others suggest that Arawn should be listed amoung them and not the creator gods. There appear to be several ways to approach the power of god-hood: be raised up by the gods, be born to a god or steal the power through deep magic.Name | Origin | Stories | Domains |
---|---|---|---|
Umberlee | Daughter of Mercannan and Metassuina (powerful fey) | Born of an illegitimate union with Mercannan, she was cursed by Degdia to always be where his Eye was blind. She grew bitter and still fights with Degdia in storms at sea. | Stagnant water, pirates, lost sailors, maelstroms and angry waters |
Kui | Son of Degdia and a Kulubaduan chief | Many stories of trickery to benefit his people. Following the great catastrophe, he drew up some land for his people with his fishing hook, which became the Spice Islands, but was lost to the process. | The Spice Islands, perfidy of humans, ingenuity, fishing |
Elreyna | Daughter of Belnias and a Deva | The beautiful daughter of the Sun, Elreyna was tricked by a joke from Kui to take off her wings sneak into Oloch's domain, so Kui could still see in the night-time. Once there, she was trapped, cursed and could never return - any time she approached her mother, she brings only darkness. So now she remains with Oloch, gaining and weakening in strength over a cycle, and sometimes sneaking into the daylight sky to stare sadly at her mother. She calls to Umberlee as they share the pain of separation from their parents, blaming Degdia and her son. | Moon, twilight, gentle night, sleep, children and maternity |
Lolth | Former Archfey who used a powerful dark sacrifice of transformation to gain the power of a god | When the Elves were dispatched from the Faewild, one archfey took to her a set of followers. To gain more power, she sacrificed 3 siblings, in her service, from different fathers, under a new moon. As punishment, the gods just about managed to seal her and her people in the Underdark | Underdark, Drow, Spiders |
Gruumsh | Lieutenant to Oloch in the War of the Energies | Little is known to men of Gruumsh. They've never really wanted to listen long enough to an orc hoard | Orcs & goblins |
Divine Origins
The Creator Gods
The gods created themselves from the Kaos as told in the The Birth of the Gods and the World. This led to the creation of the world. But this world was empty, so the deities populated at as recounted in The Creation of the Races. The world remained unbalanced. And so started The War of the Energies
