The Toad in the Hole
The Toad in the Hole appears to be a derelict tavern in Soaktown, Dolon.
A decrepit looking, half-decayed timber-frame structure. The sign hangs broken at an angle. The name is burned into the wood in both Common and Dwarvish. In Dwarvish, it appears it has been mis-translated and instead reads: “The Frog from the Void”. This is a subtle clue to its true nature - a hidden centre for the Obliviati in Dolon.
Design
Room 1: The Bar
The rotting remains of a, probably pretty grotty, bar greet the party. It smells of mould, damp and stale beer. A ghost haunts this area.
Underneath a mouldering carpet is a trap-door that originally led down to the cellar (presumably). Upon it are four arrows, pointing as per a compass, and a central button. On pressing the button, the arrows snap back to their original alignment.
Room 2: The Pit Room
A largish room. It is arcanely carved from the native rock. There is a sharp ledge, but a set of steps down from it on the side entered from. They go down 30ft to the ‘pit’ area. In there are several large stone columns, which can freely move when pushed (DC 5 strength check). However, for every 10’ of movement, there is a 1 in 4 chance a Mud Mephit will appear.
Room 3: The Room of Many Doors
This room is exactly square, with 8 doors, including entrance. In the centre is a fountain. The water tastes bitter.
Door A is the entrance. B leads to H. C leads to D. D leads to B. E leads to G. F leads to E. G leads to C. H leads to A. A leads to the next room. On returning, the way to exit is back through the same door they entered, too.
Room 4: The Footsteps of Chaos
This room has several, large hexagonal tiles across it. On it, are names of various gods. The safe path is to only step on the names of chaos. Otherwise, adventurers are attacked by relevant attacks for the gods.
Room 5: The Cloister of Chaos
This room is clearly a meeting room, where only the worthy meet and take Counsel. It is laid out in a circular, forum style with a circular table/altar at the centre. On the walls are carvings of evil looking frogs and snakes. Shadowy alcoves containing statues surround, though the light is too low to see. The Obliviati symbol also features prominently in the design.
