Volume 2, Chapter 1 - Lavanel's Notes to Sauriel

General Summary

Sauriel, I wish I could find a way to make my communications with you more consistent but there are only so many carrier birds I can find, so I will try and keep my updates to the point as not to overburden the creature.   We have had the most incredible journey across the sea, Gamble managed to buy our way onto a ship heading north, so we all jumped on the ship as deck hands and were expected to work for our passage. The barrel containing the dragonborn Rhobur was placed in the hold. We spent the next few days getting to know the people on the ship, we became very popular when Rhobur woke up and burst out of the barrel in a ball of flames.   We met a strange human man, covered in tattoos who seemed to be living on the ship as he had his own workshop full of weird and wonderful things there. He got the hit end of Rhobur’s confused rage. He seems like an interesting fellow and has travelled with us thus far.   Whilst heading north, the captain of the ship warned us of a Storm Wall which we would encounter. It was like nothing I have ever seen, it seemed not of nature, yet it was the ocean and winds using all their might against us. Whilst we approached it the ship suddenly came under attack by these awful sea creatures (Ed. Kua-toa), naturally my companions tried their best to protect the ship, including Apollo (who was grateful for the fish dinner). We managed to slay the wretched beasts however I did suffer a shell harpoon to my leg. Worry not however, as the half-kin bard I am with managed to heal the wound without much trouble.   As we broke through the Storm Wall, we were greeted with the sight of a large mass of land, surrounded by ocean. I noticed that there were several large stone features protruding from the ocean that featured ancient elven script. I couldn't make out the words from the distance, but it looked older than anything I have ever seen before. I know I am only a sprightly 150 years, however, I thought I may have come across such things with my love of language studies. It is really taking it’s toll being away from you all and not having access to our shared knowledge and history, but i’m working on that.   When we docked we met some very strange gentlemen who told us all about the odd customs they have in this place. There are certain tribes of which everyone in the city seems to have made a pledge to, which are symbolised by tattoos and symbols that they adorn. It seems a strange custom to me, but then again, everything out here is different to Daenor.
