Established a millennia ago, the School of the Arcane has ruled mystic sides of Memnon (and much of Calimshan) until the rise of the Lyceum. Its Caleph Arcane is the mysterious Veiled Caleph, the elderly Meriel Viilam who gained her post through her political and magical skills despite Calishite prejudices against foreigners holding major political positions. She is loyal to the Syl-Pasha and his plans, as she expects to take over the Lyceum from Elia yr Adnana el Beza.
