Serdohr (Sir-door)

Overview

The last of Ruthar’s sons, he is the patron deity of the wild dwarves and the dwarven god of hunting and jungle survival. As most in tune with the natural world, he left the great industrial lives of his dwarven brothers and father in order to lead a truly isolated life deep in the jungles of Aralla. He is a friend of the god Camir, much to the anger of his father and brothers.

Portfolio and Responsibilities

He is a god whose portfolio includes wild dwarves, hunting, and jungle survival. Serdohr’s clerics and druids, known as vuddor (“those of the jungle”) enjoy a position of reverence in their sheltered homeland. Vuddor lead their charges on prosperous hunts, acts as generals for the loosely organized armies of the wild dwarves, and speak for the society as a whole. Serdohr sponsors no formal temples, instead instructing his followers to treat locations of great natural beauty (such as volcanic flats, natural gardens, or waterfalls) as his halls of worship.

Holidays

One the nights late each month, the highest-ranking cleric of Serdohr in the region formally calls together numerous hunting bands, and the resulting chanting, drumming, and screams are enough to frighten off even the most desperate interloper. At such gatherings, the dwarves offer up blood sacrifices of captured dinosaurs or intruders (some of the more isolated tribes occasionally sacrifice unfortunate good humans in this manner, and while Serdohr disapproves of this he has done noting to communicate disfavor to his charges).

Example Paladin Code

Amidst the lush embrace of the jungle and the secrets of untamed lands, I pledge my allegiance to Serdohr, the guide of the wild dwarves, the steward of hunting, and the whisperer of survival. As a paladin sworn to the untamed path, I vow to:
  • In the heart of the jungle's silence, I shall listen to the teachings of the wild. Through the rustling leaves and murmuring streams, I shall seek the wisdom that Serdohr imparts.
  • Like Serdohr, I shall find solace and strength in the wilderness, away from the clamor of industry. Amidst the jungle's depths, I shall reconnect with the primal pulse of existence.
  • The hunt is not mere sport, but a sacred dance with the natural world. I shall pursue prey with respect, taking only what is necessary and ensuring that balance prevails.
  • Just as Serdohr guides his wild dwarves, I shall lead with a keen understanding of the land's rhythms. My leadership shall be informed by the harmony of the jungle.
  • I shall honor Serdohr by treating the most wondrous corners of the wilderness as sacred sanctuaries. Volcanic flats, natural gardens, and waterfalls shall be my halls of worship.

Physical Description

Body Features

He is not depicted very often, even by wild dwarves, but in religious art showing him, he usually is shown as a shirtless red bearded dwarf covered in tattoos and wearing an ornate copper helm fashioned in the shape of a crocodile’s head. He is often shown hunting the dinosaurs of the jungles and leading squads of wild dwarven hunters.
