Twilrock Mountains
Geography
Stretching from the eastern edge of the White River to the Cliffgan Woods, the Twilrock Mountains are situated between the North of White River and the The Whispering Expanse. The mountains are characterized by towering and jagged peaks, deep valleys, and rugged terrain. The peaks reach impressive heights compared to the Cairntop Mountains in the southeast. The slopes are steep and can be challenging to traverse with rocky outcroppings and cliffs. The mountains are crisscrossed by rivers and streams that flow east out and into the White River.
Climate
As the altitude increases, temperatures tend to drop, resulting in cold conditions compared to the low-lying regions. The mountains themselves experience a cooler climate throughout the year, with temperatures generally lower than the temperate area north of the White River. Summers in the mountains are milder and more temperate, with winters being cold and snowy, especially at higher elevations. The mountain sides exhibit various microclimates due to the many varying elevations. High elevations have cooler and wetter conditions, supporting coniferous forests. Lower slopes might have drier and milder climates, drier on the south side and more average on the north side.
Fauna & Flora
The frostberry bush is a hardy shrub that grows near the top of the Twilrock Mountains. The small blue berries have a refreshing, icy taste and offer temporary adaptation to the extreme cold when eaten. The berries are favorite food source for wildlife and travelers, including mountain dwelling birds and small rodents. Along the many adapted monsters of the mountains are the Frostfire Salamander, large amphibians found near icy lakes and streams in the Twilrocks. It's ice blue skin is laced with glowing orange veins that emit flames. The blood of the salamander can provide temporary resistance to both cold and fire damage, making it valuable for adventurers.
History
The mountains themselves were mostly inhabited by bearfolk before the White River offensive, but now are usually a place for outcasts and exiles. Presently The Nadhari base themselves in the mountains and strike at the plantations and villages to the north.
