White River Plains

Geography

The plains south of the White River stretch out for a considerable distance to the south of the southern riverbank. This expansive region is known for its vast open grassy plains, rolling hills, and occasional patches of spare forest. The terrain is relatively flat, making suitable for agriculture and grazing livestock. The White River itself is the defining feature of the region, flowing to the northeast into the Whitefin Bay. The River is both wide and deep, with a strong flowing current that makes it well-traveled both for trade and for fishing.

Climate

The White River plains experiences a moderate climate similar to the regions around it, summers in the region tend to be warm and pleasant. The proximity to the Whitefin bay in the northeast brings cool breezes and that lead to mild winters as well. Rainfall is more frequent during the fall and winter months, and cool temperatures prevail in the area. Snowfall may occur but is generally very light and infrequent.

Fauna & Flora

A variety of mundane and magical flora and gauna populate the landscape of the White River plains. River willows, wildflowers, and tallgrass cover the river edges and fields, but some more interesting flora include Moon Lilies, patches of white lilies that bloom under the light of the cradle. They emite a gentle and soft glow, casting an enchanting light on the surrounding area. Mundane animals in the area include river otters, bison, and wild cats, and some magical animals unique to the area may include Emberhorn deer, creatures with radiant antlers and that manipulate flames. Most unique and interesting in the area are the Shadowcat, elusive and stealthy, they prowl the sparse forests and grasslands. They are able to manipulate the light around them, making them permanently invisible while hunting.

History

In the direct aftermath of humanities resurgence onto the surface, the nearly created Calimshan expanded westword towards the White River. In a series of powerful offensives, the military of Calimshan displaces and destroyed the deer and bearfolk tribes in the area, forcing them north. Soon after that, battles with druidic circles and wild elven tribes pushed the native defenders to the northern Cliffgan Woods.

Tourism

Major Landmarks in the Region -   The city of Grabby's Reach is the industrial heart of Calimshan. Built around and on the cliff walls of large ravine, the city survives on both its thriving industry and mining operations. By extension, this also makes it the heart of the slave trade in the south of Calimshan.   The southern major crossing is the city of Nemesse. The city itself is mostly built along the river coast, with several districts built on the river itself, making the docks of the city almost 30 percent of the entire city's space.   The city of Hanama is one of the oldest Calishite cities, is an important stop in trade going both north and south on the main continent, as well as trade coming in and out of the Whitefin Bay.   An abandoned village, far from major roads is basically in ruins. Unknown to almost everyone, under the village is a fortress of the Ebon Ward, the Obsidian Spire (the central location for the Ebon Ward's leadership).   As its name suggests, the Echoing Cliffs, a few days to the northeast of Nemesse, are a series of tall vertical rock formations that create a natural amphitheater. When someone speaks or sings from a certain spot within the cliffs, their voice carries for thousands of feet and with exceptional clarity.
