Ser Meryn Calloway is a knight, and the Captain of the Guard for Boldern Tower.
He is also the father of Brent "Patchface" Calloway and the father-in-law and uncle of Zayne Calloway . His wife is Olenna, who was once married to his brother Mearle before he died in a bandit attack.
Meryn is a squat and ugly man with a wide face, fierce jowls, no hair and a constant scowl. He shouts more often than he speaks and has no shortage of spittle to grace the faces of all of his underlings in the Guard. Still, he knows how to be respectful and deferential when it comes to the noble Caleils, and he is skilled both as a warrior with hammer and shield and as a tactician.
He has a publicly poor relationship with both his son and his nephew, Patchface and Zayne. But most of the guards under him do tend to warm up to him, as he rewards loyalty and good service with copious amounts of alcohol and feasting in Paddlestone on the rare nights he has off. Few at the tower have met his lady wife Olenna, but he seems not to trouble about her when he takes his boys to the Warm Sheets for a night of revelry.
