Zayne Calloway

The nephew of Meryn Calloway and cousin to Brent "Patchface" Calloway . His father, Mearle Calloway, died when he was a child. His mother Olenna remarried to Meryn, who still calls him nephew despite being his father-in-law now.   Zayne is fairly short and thin of frame, with a long and sallow face that makes him appear older than he is.   Zayne serves as the Court's Bard for Boldern Tower. He has a high voice which he pairs with a variety of instruments, usually guitar or harp. They say he sings like a bird, but can't quite agree on what type of bird; most say a sparrow, but his uncle says a parrot with a broken neck.   He always dresses colorfully and is a loyal companion to his deranged cousin, the Patchface. He seems to be the only one who can channel Patchface's terrifying poems into something somewhat whimsical, at times... Though other times it just sounds even more terrifying when paired with a haunting harp melody and harmonizing vocals.   Anyone who has been around at the tower long enough has picked up on the rumors that Zayne isn't a typical young man. His uncle's loud accusations of him being a poof once reached every corner of the tower. However, an equally loud rumor eventually silenced the first last year when it was confirmed by Kina Caleil herself that he was a woman's man - and a good one at that, according to her firsthand experience.   Quotes:   Him: "Performance is an art just like swordplay, and we bards protect the realm just as well as the greatest knights. We are the shield that guards the realms of men from boredom and vapidity!"   About him (Meryn Calloway): "My nephew is a sod and a disgrace to my brother's name. His songs are just bastardizations of the tunes he steals from travellers, his visage reminds me of my vomit after a night at the town, and the way he prances about like a pony it's clear he means to be ridden like one. The day I don't have to see him anymore is the day I'll quit spirits."
