Rocky Helmet

"See dat? Broken femur. Kneecap. Collar bone, 2 ribs. Tailbone..." the Dwarf pauses for a moment to rub his sore hind.

"... But, meh Head?! Nothing! It'll take MORE than 3 clubs, a Rock Drop trap, the immediate Pit Fall, the cave-in, and 3 clubs to beat son of..."
— a rescued, battered Dwarf wearing a Rocky Helmet

A Rocky Helmet is a solid stone helmet with two protrusions on the side, traditionally crafted as horns from Dark Stone. Typically crafted in the shape of a barbuta or a bullet, these Dwarven helmets protect the wearer from a variety of conditions.

This Armor (Helmet) replaces any helmet of a set of armor, providing its benefits instead.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Rocky Helmet provides its owner with a +1 Physical Defense to their Armor Rating.

In addition, the owner ignores the effect of Rock Drop and takes no damage from this spell.

The owner can't be knocked unconscious due to physical head trauma; the owner ignores the effects of a concussion from damage. This effect allows the owner to continue fighting past the -0 HP threshold.

Another benefit of the Rocky Helmet is it can be used as a weapon; by taking Defend actions, the owner deals 1d6 smashing damage to anyone that attempts an attack with a stone or wooden melee weapon or natural attack. This effect can only be used when Defending, but the owner can make Movement actions at half their normal rate, as usual.

A Rocky Helmet has been enchanted to provide the Starlight spell. From both of the rocky protrusions, the owner can cause a 15ft. light to emanate as a cone, illuminating the immediate area in front of them and casting an area of low light beyond. The helmet has to be worn to provide this effect; otherwise, the light dissipates and will need to be reactivated. While Dwarves are naturally accustomed to darkness, sometimes they have guests on their work sites that benefit from this design feature. It also helps to provide finer details for Dwarves who still appreciate the Light in the absence of it.

Manufacturing process

The stone and metal fittings are crafted to the desired shape. The rocky protrusions that form the protractable "horns" of the Rocky Helmet are also made of Dark Stone. The inner helmet is lined with soft padding to protect the wearer's head, face, and beard. It takes six to eight hours to craft a Rocky Helmet.

History

The Rocky Helmet was crafted by the Dwarves, who continued to suffer head trauma to things such as cave ins or falls. These earthen helms helps to dampen the blows from impacts by stones, rocks and metal, making them an incredible industrial standard.

Significance

Dwarves typically use the Rocky Helmets in construction areas, using them to protect their heads from falling debris or to explore cavern depths. They provide excellent benefits as well as utilities that help when exploring the darkness or setting up new structures underground.
