Firbolgs

Firbolgs are the quintessential cryptid of Archaios. They are among the rarest of the land's sapient races and seem to reside exclusively in the most far-flung, untapped places of wilderness. What's more, despite their immense size, they have a strong aptitude for blending in with their environment and remaining undetected when they wish, which is most of the time.   Genetically, Firbolgs are a close relative of the Goliaths that roam the mountains. Both of them seem to derive some sort of ancestry from the giants of old, though firbolg's seem to have inherited some of their more magically inclined traits, bearing a connectivity to the natural world around them that would rival elves.    Physically, firbolg's tower over their fellow humanoids; most easily reaching up to 8 feet in height. Not only do they grow tall, but they also grow wide, with most adult firbolgs boasting a stocky muscle mass and impressive strength; again at odds with their naturalistic, passive demeanor. Unlike their goliath cousins, Firbolgs are capable of growing hair, which tends to be very thick and coarse. There skin often carries a greenish hue, with some scholars believing they may actually have evolved some genetic similarities to the plant life they surround themselves with.    Culturally, firbolgs tend to build small, tight-knit communities deep within the wilderness. These settlements serve as a common meeting place and a safe zone to raise children, but individual firbolgs tend to live secluded lives for the most part; only returning to the group for remarkable occasions. Otherwise, they tend to seek solitude and enlightenment within the deep wildernesses and among the company of silent flora and fauna.
