Kobolds

Kobolds are widely considered to be the squirrel of sapient species, at least in Archaios. They're indigenous to everywhere, they're tiny, jumpy, twitchy, and tend to horde shiny things. They also have an unfortunate history of getting themselves entangled in the armies and machinations of far more powerful entities; namely Dragons. Despite this, kobolds are far from the cowardly, opportunistic, and savage creatures folklore paints them as.   For evidence of this, look no farther than the Karrera Conglomerate of The Talhani Isles. Independent of some evil overlord, the kobolds of this region were able to unite themselves under a common banner and create a multi-faceted civilization with their own science, art, and culture. Indeed, they were the second major faction to settle in the Isles and were founding members of The Assembly. Within the Isles, the Karrera are renowned for their innovations in the arcane sciences like artifice and alchemy as well as rather infamous for their skill at espionage and subterfuge when the need arises.   Physically, kobolds are small and light reptilian creatures that prefer dimly lit environments. Their origins are murky at best; many kobold shaman like to trace their lineage to the great dragons they often serve, but other scholars believe they simply share a common ancestor with the likes of Lizardfolk and Dragonborn.   Kobolds' lifespans also mirror their physical stature: short and frantic. Before the Age of Exploration, no one in Archaios could definitely claim they knew exactly how long a kobold can live, as most died from external causes long before their bodies expired from natural causes. The Karrera people have shed some light on this, however: While members of their society routinely live into their golden years, they seem to still reach them around the ages of 30-40 and cap out around 50 years. This makes sense, as kobolds reach physical maturity just a few short years after their hatching.
