Session 13: A Baker's Dozen of Slaves
General Summary
The group that the entered portal spins through a long vortex, seeing stars and celestial bodies. They exit on the top of a mountain, tumbling down a grassy slope, all the way down, nearly a mile from the summit. Sapphie and Leif are so badly hurt by tumbling down the slopes, they have been knocked unconscious. They try to get their bearings and can surmise they aren't in the continent of Mur anymore. They must be on Azmayne, in the Azata Plains just at the foothills of the mountains.
The group, consisting Dolor Darean, Krusk, Deja, Saphie, and Leif Arrowsken, make camp and rest.
The morning after, Krusk sends a message to Pitri:
"Pitri, we're in Azmayne. Everyone is alive, Saphie is unconscious, but otherwise fine. Who is with you? Is the group safe? Please send more cabbages."
Pitri responds: "Thank God you're alive! Will and I were about to... what’s that Will? I only get twenty five words. Right R’kir gone, we’re coming!"
Deja uses her sending stones to contact Aliñar Daeran: "Ali, we're with your brother, Dolor, and Krusk and Leif, in Azmayne. We could use your help getting the group back together."
Ali responds: "OK, tell my brother he better watch out. Once I find you all, I'm going to kill him. I'll see what I can do, love ya bunches!"
Pitri then casts sending to Ali: "Wiliman and I got separated from the group because things got crazy. We could use your help."
Ali responds: "Honey I’m on my way. Tell Wil to get bent. I’m not too far from Nox. Do you have my sword? I’m tired, I’m hungry. See ya."
Ali and Pitri keep talking and plan to meet up in Nox.
As Deja and Ali finish their conversation, Krusk hears some rustling in the grass.
Soon, lions and leonines emerge from the dry grass and a booming voice calls out in a language they don't understand.
Krusk and Deja make their peaceful intentions known. The leader notices that they have wounded with them, and offers to escort them back to a settlement, where they can leave and end their trespassing on pride lands.
Ajani, the leader, notice Dolor and his hackles raise. "You said there were no Fire Genasi - Nariin among you!" Krusk explains that Dolor is a water genasi, from the Ca'Jiin Marshlands and not a
If you vouch for him, we will not attack. But be warned, one step out of line, and we will cut him down.
Deja responds, "Trust me, one step out of line, and I will cut him down."
They walk almost the entire day and arrive at a settlement of Leonine. As they settle in, they walk past a trio of Goblinkin in a stockade, next to a human. @Cane, @Cornelius, @Clayton and @Alexander Ajani offers to arrange transportation for them, on the condition that they help him with a task. He pulls out a rather well made map of Azmayne. We have recently come into contact with the Nariin. Although we have never gotten along, we have maintained a peace for many years. A few months ago, they took several of our people. From what we've been able to piece together, from the goblins and human outside, the Nariin have come back into the slave trade over the last few years. We beleive that is why they captured our people. "So how can we help you?" asked Deja. "We can't go into Port Nariin ourselves, we're too conspicuous. If you can find our people, free them, and return them to us, then I will arrange your transportation away from here."
"Their cities are large, where might they even be?"
What did they do to get put into the stockade?" asked Deja.
"The goblis have been using our waters to prey upon smaller ships. This time, we have preyed upon them."
"Are they even trustworthy enough to count on? What would prevent them from stabbing us in the back." said Ajani.
"So if they were to say, be killed on this task, you wouldn't hold it against us?" asked Deja
"No I would not." Ajani replied
"How many were taken?" asked Krusk.
Ajani replies with the number and description of who was taken. He makes a special mention of a child, Zaieke, the youngest of his children. Deja swears to retrieve the child at all costs and Krusk agrees, believing that something more than chance has brought them here. He further relates that they are 4 men, 6 women, and 2 children who were taken.
The group of Clayton, Cornelius, Cane, Alexander, Deja, Leif, Saphie, Dolor, and Krusk depart for Port Nariin escorted by Ajani. After 5 days, Ajani lets them know he can safely go no further, they must continue alone, they should reach the town by nightfall.
As the group approaches the city, with the sun setting behind them, they see a town of carved sandstone and buildings nestled against the ocean. The Lord's Manor is clearly visible, towering over most of the buildings.
They go to the Leaky Nook, to finalize their plan, hatched on the road. They plan to have Alexander pose as a slave merchant who wants to acquire some Leonine slaves. They will find where, specifically they are being held, then break them out later.
While they discuss their plan, Cornelius goes and chats up a Rakshasa name J'zargo. J'zargo charms him and wants him to bring Deja to him. They remove the charm on Cornie and leave, stopping by the bank to get some clothes for Alexander they head to the Lord's Manor. As they approach, they are stopped by some guards that look like draconic fire genasi, Krusk and Deja recognize that they look like the half dragons they met in Hobart Bay. The guards ask them what business they have their.
Clayton informs them that his employer, Alexander Hargreaves is here to look at the finest local slaves, locally bred and raised. Ten minutes pass when a small fire genasi with large glasses comes in and beckons them on, into a courtyard.
In the courtyard, they see fire genasi sparring with leonines, who are holding their own against some well armed half dragons. Although this is sparring, the guards aren't pulling their punches, the leonine are going all out just to stay alive.
They are brought into the manor proper, where they see a few leonine females on hands and knees scrubbing the floor as they pass in the main foyer. The go through yet another set of doors, opening into a throne room, where in the back, on a raised platform, sit two thrones. Seated upon the largest throne is a deceptively young looking male fire genasi, with a fauxhawk (coife) of fiery hair, eyes that glow like gleaming hot coals, dressed finely in colorful silks, embroidered with gold and ruby thread, the chieftain king, Mariin. Beside him sits a woman, who appears to be a human with very pale skin, wan in color, red eyes and platinum blonde hair. Alexander is not quite certain, but given the abundance of half-dragon and half-genasi guards, he has a sinking feeling in the back of his mind that this may be the Ashen Queen, Vumrorah.
The chieftain king, in a bemused and familiar tone says, "Lord Hargreaves, what is it you're looking for."
Clayton senses Alexander's hesitation to answer, and steps in, "Sir we are looking to acquire some local slaves as we go on expedition on this continent. We would like to get an even dozen of them."
They haggle with the Queen, Vumrorah, over the price and settle on a decent amount. The party leaves to acquire the cash to purchase the slaves and plot trying to get them to escape.
Meanwhile, back in Nox JESTER made himself known to Aliñar Daeran, Pitri, and Wiliman Silverkin. He offers to help them out, in exchange for them leaving him alone, or at least not trying to kill him. He teleports to Azmayne to help them out.
Meanwhile, back in Azmayne, Cornelius Cobb decided to buy the group more time. He offers his services to Maliik and the Ashen Queen since he is a skilled fighter. Bemusingly, the Ashen Queen decides to put him to the test against a few of his half-dragons. Quickly the fight goes sour, Cornelius is very bloodied, and due to some magic bonding, Clay is sharing the damage. As a half dragon is about to deliver a death blow, suddenly JESTER appears, stopping time. JESTER banishes FLAMES and the Ashen Queen, and opens a portal for the Wild Cards and the slaves to escape.
