Basaltthrone

Near the center of the deep caverns below the Smokewhistle Mountains, the nation's capital city of Basaltthrone stands proudly. Adjacent caverns lead to the three main mine systems: Obsidian, Rockhorse, and Chimney. The city's central location puts it just south of Mount Stonekettle, the tallest of the mountain range and a dormant volcano. The city is heated and lit by carefully built and filtered shafts leading down to churning lava. Ventilation is provided by tall shafts in the city's ceiling.
Basaltthrone is square-shaped and tall, where Gallakor is long. The city is pyramid-shaped, and is built like a ziggurat in a tall cavernous atrium. Each street is square-shaped and sits at a different height. A thin wall on the outer perimeter and another one halfway up the pyramid divide different layers, and each has machine-operated gates. The top of the hill is walled off and does not accept visitors aside from its reception office; this top layer is the royal courtyard, home to Basalt Keep and the The Archestriforge.

Government

The Smokewhistle Kingdom is run by a monarchy. Queen Stormbrand sits on the Basalt Throne and rules over the underground dwarven domain, maintaining order and safety for her people.

Law & enforcment

Dwarves place high value on honesty, honor, and order. The cities of the kingdom have competent and ubiquitous city watches that oversee countless business operations to protect against theft and sabotage. Meticulously-managed ledgers are common among every business, and are reviewed by a government tax office. Crime is very rare in the Smokewhistle Kingdom; any disappearance of wealth or goods is detected, reported, and investigated.
