About
Black iron, also known as "corrupted iron", or "Shadowsteel" is a heavy and magical metal which exists throughout the Dragon's Domain. Its origins are unknown, but it is said to be a metal which has been exposed to the entropic and corrupting presence of the Shadow. The metal is most commonly found on the planes where the Shadow has been, namely Amumbra and Arda. Black iron has a number of useful properties. It is strong and malleable, much akin to normal iron, and can similarly be wrought into a steel-like alloy. In this manner, black iron can be used in the traditional forms such as armor, weapons, or even tools. The metal has a strong affinity for the absorption and holding of the Shadow magic which is commonly used by the Shadow's servitors. As a result, black iron gear is sought after by hunters of the Shadow and its worshipers, especially as the major alternative, Sunmetal, is comparatively far more rare. The metal's most powerful application lies in the hands of the mighty mage-smiths of the fetchlings. Using black iron, they craft weapons and armors which resonate with the intrinsic Shadow magic of the metal. This is most often brought out by the variable blessings offered by the banners used by the fetchling knights of the Order of the Gilded Dragon. The Order puts the black iron to their nefarious purposes in their invasions of Arda or other planes beyond.
