About
Sunmetal, also known as "meteor bronze" or "meteor mithril" is a sturdy, light, and dependable metal which is said to be infused with the magic of the Heavens. Contrary to the name, sunmetal is not derived from the sun, but instead is named after the soft bronze-gold glow it produces. While its direct origins are unknown, sunmetal is known to be a special material which is known to be collected from a number of meteorites. Known to commoners as shooting stars, meteors are considered to be a divine blessing from the deities of the Heavens. In Dunlain, it is said that each shooting star is said to represent the birth of a new hero, with the sunmetal a gift to forge their destined weapon. Sunmetal has a number of intrinsic properties which it is valued for. The metal is known to be have excellent absorption of latent magical energy. Over time, sunmetal will absorb this energy, slowly becoming brighter until it is discharged. As a result, sunmetal is valued by mages as a way to store magical potential, and others use the charged sunmetal as powerful magical reagents. As a light and sturdy material, it is often compared with mithril, though it is generally slightly heavier than mithril is. Regardless, sunmetal is often fashioned into coatings for arms and armor, but requires a skilled smith to perform them. The Shadow and its followers are known to be particularly weak to sunmetal. While its direct mechanism of action is unknown, magical scholars believe that as magically-derived extraplanar creatures, fetchlings or other Shadow creatures are particularly vulnerable to the magical absorption properties of the metal. It is for this reason the metal is particularly sought after by the Torches, the Watchers, and even by the Shadow's own subjects looking to keep it out of the hands of the other two.Shadows Over Arda

The heroes met with Archmagister Sendor, the dean of language, who helped them translate the tomes along with his assistant Ferandis. They discovered the fetchlings and the Shadow were weak to sunmetal, and that the fetchlings wished to secure as much of it as they could in the Blood Fortress of Thuban to keep it out of the hands of the Torches or other foes. It mentioned the largest supply of sunmetal was held by the svir. Fortunately for our heroes, they met a cleric of the Primordial Water and a scholar on the svir, Miziens. He mentioned his research may have pinpointed the lost "City" of the svir, but it would be too perilous to go alone. With the support of the Archmagister, Miziens and the party made their way to "City", and found the svir, though now loyal subjects of the Shadow. They were in the process of moving the sunmetal, but was disrupted by Gregor and Zelt. Destroying and sinking "City", they took the remaining sunmetal to the surface and back to the Archmagister. Returning to Westport, the heroes gave the sunmetal to the Archmagister Sendor for safekeeping. Sendor, still grieving over the loss of his and Selena's child, secretly attempted to use the sunmetal as a magical reagent to bring his child back to life with Ferandis. With Sendor in the ritual, Ferandis reveals he is a fetchling in disguise, and steals much of the sunmetal before being stopped by Gregor and Zelt. They forgive Sendor, who resolves to be a better husband to Selena and a father to More.
