Pater would vanish while hunting werewolves in the Fiirwood. One legend says he would return as a werewolf to attack Poinak, his younger brother and heir to Saolmoth. In most versions, Poinak slays his brother, and must go on a series of quests to absolve himself of the sin of kin killing. There is one version where he is slain by Poinak's younger brother Mathir, who becomes a hosterman to repent.
