The Borderguard
Another artifact of the flourishing New/Free Age, the BorderGuard was built on the ruins of an old outpost that fell to disrepair in the late Royal Age. Immediately after the High Lords' Conclave (in which the lords declared an end to Monarchy in Milos), Ethelbrand declared peace throughout the land, perhaps a bit prematurely. The Yfri Fields maintained monarchy for several decades afterward, sometimes violently and always loudly, but Ethel was quick to pacify any potential threats through diplomacy and their famously generous trade. The BorderGuard was founded in a direct and deliberately pacifist response to the frequent mounted patrols along the Yfri side of the border. Some consider it instrumental in the peace between the two regions and consequently the rest of Milos.
Despite the fierce competition and ever-present paranoia of raids, the BorderGuard represents the most open border-passage in the entirety of the Lordslands.
