Machatun Mountain Range

The Machatun Mountain Range is a large mountain range in the far western stretches of the explored land within Beogar. It lies mostly within a tropical zone, causing the mountains to lack any snowfall and be mostly covered with rainforests and heavy vegetation. It is also the location of a number of ancient ruins of the civilizations of the Age Before, a time before the arrival of the gods.

Geography

The Machatuns are of not of a remarkable size when it comes to mountains. They do not rise to any height that can be considered remarkable. The uniqueness of these mountains comes from their location and shape. First, they are the border between the Tlahuati Canyon and the Ghihovi Wastes. The mountains' shapes are generally wide and steep, with spire-like peaks. In the southern reaches, the mountains bend to the east, entering the center of the Caltathui Rainforest.

Fauna & Flora

The plant life within the Machatuns is generally far larger than can be found in most other places. The most distinguished among these are the several varieties of carnivorous plants that can be found there. Many of the plants can also be identified by their tendency to have very thick, tough stems and stalks. In general, the vegetation is rather dense, thinning out into rich grasses and shrubs at the very tops of the mounts.   Wildlife in the Machatuns is arguably even more distinctive than the plant life. The most common animals found there are not actually animals at all. Instead, they are insects. These insects are generally far larger than their eastern cousins, and many of them are poisonous or venomous. Other types of wildlife commonly found here are a multitude of snakes. They are arguably the most common creature in the region, accounting for the nickname that these mountains have earned: the "Snake Mountains."
