A great war between the gods and the primordials for control over the multiverse.
A timeline that explores the most important events in the history of the world of Ardrim over the millenia.
The first era, beginning with the awakening of the gods and ending with the Schism of the Seldarine.
A great war between the gods and the primordials for control over the multiverse.
The schism between the Seldarine, where Lolth betrayed Corellon and attempted to overthrow him. It resulted in the banishment of the gods that would become known as the Dark Seldarine and the creation of the Drow, or dark elves.
A period of time in which giants were the dominant residents of Ardrim
The mass enslavement of nearly all of the elves after being banished from Arvandor after the Schism of the Seldarine.
The settling of the continent Arvyr and the subsequent rise of the Ordnallenheim.
The gradual dissolution and fall of the Giant nation Vagranagar, paving the way for the Elven Revolution.
An uprising of the elves in an attempt to regain their freedom from the giants led by Tanithil Liarac.
The Giant nations of Arvyr, known as the Ordnallenheim, crumbled and fell into ruin in the wake of the Elven Revolution.
The first age of Ardrim in which civilization developed, grew, and thrived. It began with the Second Mortal Creation and ended with the Collapse of the First Age.
The migration of the elves out of Arvyr and the subsequent founding of elvish nations, collectively known as the Thelnorei.
The period of time in which the many new humanoid races, along with many of the older ones, settled upon the large continent of Iudanth, the location of which has been lost. There, they created their first civilizations complete with kingdoms and governments. At this point, only the elven nation of Tanithael was located on another continent.
This was essentially the Golden Age of the Mortal Era, beginning with the general completion of the Great Settling of Iudanth. It was accentuated and perpetuated by the introduction of magic to the beings of the Second Mortal Creation by the god now known only as He Who Was.
A migration of many different races from their respective planes of origin to the Prime Material Plane. These beings settled across Ardrim, with the full extent of their migration unknown to this day. This is because, while many settled with the other inhabitants of Ardrim on Iudanth, many others settled in far away lands that have yet to be discovered.
The ancient god Tharizdun became twisted and corrupted by the ancient primordial obyrith lords who subtly gave him access to what is known as the Shard, a pure manifestation of evil. This corrupted Tharizdun, and he planted this shard in the Elemental Chaos. From it would grow the Abyss, and with it all of the many demonic entities that ravage the planes to this day.
Beginning with the Abyssal Creation, the Era of Darkness encompassed the entirety of the War of Many Suns.
The War of Many Suns was an incredibly long war in which Tharizdun, after creating the abyss, allied himself with the exiled primordials to overthrow the gods. It would become the most devastating event in the history of Ardrim, as it nearly destroyed the world itself along with its inhabitants. Its name is derived from the fact that the sun was blotted out and reborn countless times during the war as Dendar the Night Serpent would devour it, only for the gods to remake it.
This was a period of time in which nearly all of the races of the world escaped Iudanth, sailing through the Cloaked Expanse for years in search of one of the final surviving settlements of the elves: Beogar.
An age in which the races of Ardrim attempted to escape the destruction caused by the War of Many Suns and rebuild their civilizations.
This was a period of time in which nearly all of the races of the world escaped Iudanth, sailing through the Cloaked Expanse for years in search of one of the final surviving settlements of the elves: Beogar.
The general settlement of many of the mortal races upon the continent of Beogar, the location of one of the final surviving settlements of elves.
This was a period of time in which the mortal races of the world experienced a pseudo-golden age, with a general emphasis on the rebuilding of civilization as it once was.
The rising of the Dead Three, the former mortals Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul, to godhood upon "stealing" Jergal's power. In reality, Jergal simply manipulated the three into gaining his power due to his weariness of the position of God of Death.
The fall of Asmodeus from grace, leading a group of angels in rebellion against He Who Was and killing him.
After both the War of May Suns and the Fall of Asmodeus, the gods were greatly weakened and exiled from their abodes in the Upper Planes. They lost much of their power, and were forced to go into hiding in Ardrim itself as mortals, walking the earth and attempting to hide from the many powers that would gladly tear them asunder. On top of this, the devils were prevented from involving themselves due to the curse placed upon by He Who Was in his dying moments, trapping them in Baator.
A period of time in which demons came to rule over Ardrim, emboldened by the Divine Recreance.
This was a mass invasion by demonic forces into Ardrim, where they easily took sovereignty of the lands thereof due to the Collapse of the Second Mortal Era, and was made even easier by the Divine Recreance and the Fall of Asmodeus, which prevented the gods or the devils from intervening.
The demons, led by the obyrith lords, took control of the entirety of known civilization, ruling over it with an iron fist. This was a long and dark time, with very little recorded history surviving from then.
The Tanar'ri, a race of demon created by the obyriths as slaves, revolted against their obyrith masters, killing many of them and inheriting the rule of the lands themselves. However, this weakened the abyssal forces as a whole, allowing for the First Desolation to take place.
This was a global-scale uprising of nearly all of the mortal races of Ardrim against the Tanar'ri and their demonic armies. It was, at the time, the longest mortal war ever to have been staged. While the mortal races were eventually victorious in pushing back the demons, it came at the price of a near-cataclysmic fall of the civilizations of the known world.
This was a comparably short-lived era in which dragons came to rule the nations of Ardrim in the wake of the First Desolation.
After the First Desolation, the great silver dragon Agothar proposed that his fellow metallic dragons serve as regents for the kingdoms of Ardrim as they rebuild. These many kingdoms became known as the Agotharian Kingdoms, named for their visionary. These kingdoms included many, but not all, nations of Irinal.
Shortly after the founding of the Agotharian Kingdoms, the chromatic dragons attempted to take large amounts of territory in Beogar. Most importantly, they attempted to invade Tanithael. This resulted in a massive war between the chromatic dragons of Rythkar and the elves of Tanithael. The war lasted for a rather long time, but the tables turned once the metallic dragons joined the cause and helped repel the chromatic dragons. Most importantly, this inadvertently freed some of the dragonborn, who had been created by the chromatic dragons to serve as infantry in the War of Rythkar.
At the end of the War of Rythkar, the territory of chromatic dragonborn that dominated the Kolkari Mountains dissolved as they fled the mountain range after suffering extreme casualties.
During this age of relative prosperity for many of the Irinal nations, many different beings who were traditionally considered extraplanar began migrating to the prime material plane. The most prevalent among these races included the Aarokokra and the Triton.
This war, directly caused by the planar migrations, consisted of many aarokokra attempting to push the goliaths out of the Bæor Mountains, their traditional homeland. The aarakokran forces were ultimately successful, shattering the goliaths into the Ten Tribes of the Kvikindi Hilmir and forcing them east into what would become known as Annorn.
This was a revolution staged by the freed dragonborn against their former masters in an attempt to kill them and free their brethren, directly causing the Dissolution of the Agotharian Kingdoms.
After the events of the Draconic Revolution, the Regents of the Agotharian Kingdoms concluded that they must step down from their seats of power and allow the lesser races of Ardrim rule themselves.
This era, with a beginning marked by the Divine Return, was one of cultural, scientific, and arcane advancement.
This marked the return of the gods to Ardrim. While they had escaped into the Astral Sea long ago, only now had they managed to manifest enough of their former power to return to godhood. Most importantly, this returned divine magic to the mortal races.
This was an exploration and expansion of the nations of Ardrim to the rest of the Irinal continents.
This was an arrival of the Gith, soon to become the Githyanki and Githzerai, in Ardrim. They arrived from the Astral Sea in central Balukthur, north of the Nbantu Jungle. There they hid from their former captors, the Illithid. However, this would not last long due to the tensions between the factions of the spiritual and military leaders of the race, Zerthimon and Gith. Eventually, this would lead to a civil war between them.
It did not take very long for a civil war to break out between the two factions of the Gith. Disagreeing on the future of the Gith people, the two factions quickly began fighting violently with each other. This warring signaled their presence to the Mind Flayers, who soon made their way to reclaim their lost slaves. However, by the time they arrived the Gith had already split, with the Githzerai retreating to Limbo and the Githyanki returning to the Astral Sea to find a new home.
The Gith Civil War brought the searching Illithids to their former slaves, where they planned to capture them and enslave them once again. However, by the time the Mind Flayers arrived, the now split Gith had already retreated to Limbo or the Astral Sea, with the Illithid having no way of knowing their current location. It was this that caused Illithid to settle in the Underdark of Ardrim, returning to the land eons after the fall of their great empire that spanned the crystal spheres.
After thousands of years, the mortals of Ardrim discovered adamantine, an incredibly resilient yet rare metal. It was first discovered in the Machaqway Mountain Range in the far stretches of central Beogar.
The crossbow was invented by the famous dragonborn inventor Alkur Salinis of Maenor. It would dramatically change warfare and would become an integral, if subtle, factor in the Great Desolation.
The Amatleh Teocaru were ancient manuscripts discovered in the long-abandoned ruins of the empire of the Okoth in the Machatun Mountain Range in Beogar. They contained extensive knowledge and research on both the fundamentals and finer nuances of the arcane arts. All of the knowledge contained within the manuscripts propelled modern magic far ahead. It allowed the peoples of Ardrim to use magic in a more controlled manner through structured channeling, now called spells, instead of the far wilder and unpredictable uses of magic in the past.
Titus Hauksworth, a human in modern-day Montelermo, worked throughout his life developing massive amounts of alchemical recipes and formulas. Some of these were mundane and others were arcane. He is credited with the invention of true healing potions, the practices for reliable infusion of spells into potions. Some others include the invention of sovereign glue, universal solvent, and various oils with special properties.
Over time, cults became more and more prevalent throughout the civilized world. Many of them worshipped devils or demons, oftentimes fighting each other due to philosophical, religious, and other reasons. This managed to catch the attention of the respective demons and devils being worshipped by said cults. The devils began to manipulate their cults in order to gain access to more mortal souls. The demons came to notice this, escalating their cultic efforts in response. This paved the way for the Great Desolation.
House Duergar was once a great Dulkarnithian house, with much wealth and power among the other Dulkarnithian Kingdoms. They were especially renowned for their military prowess, until they were defeated at the hands of the elves during the Kolkarine Wars. Once this had happened, they lost much of their past renown and turned inwards, redoubling their mining efforts. However, this allowed them to be captured and enslaved by the Illithid.
The Era of Blood was the aptly named time period in which the Prime Material Plane, specifically Ardrim, became directly involved in the Blood War.
The Great Desolation was a war that lasted over 1000 years and was an involvement of the Prime Material Plane in the Blood War. It caused drastic geographical changes, the collapse of civilizations, and magical disasters.
The Mercenary War was a relatively long-lasting war almost exclusively fought by the shorter-lived races. Due to the massive loss during the Great Desolation, many governmental military groups were crippled. Because of this, the land that had been made available by the Desolation was fought over by mainly mercenary or paramilitary groups, hence the name of the conflict.
The Verdonne Conquest was a war that followed the Mercenary War. It united many of the colonies and city-states that had been created during the Mercenary War under the flag of Vardonne. Also, during the Siege of Montelermo, the Amatleh Teocaru was lost, its fate completely unknown after that point.
