Iron Mountain League

The Iron Mountain League is a confederacy of five independent cities in the Iron Mountains: the three great dwarf-halls of Masïkhunaut, Yinunaut, and Khinaut Dïdeldithlïdush carved beneath the mountains; the gnomish city of Bailenoc in the southwest foothills, north of the Hauntmoor; and the Free City of Adholis, situated on the southern coast almost due north of Lyholm.

History

In 1407, as a response to the growing military power of Axmund and particularly Arcadia, the Grand Mayor of Adholis, Rinwel the Golden, called the remaining free cities in the Iron Mountains to a council. He spoke urgently, warning them that the mountains were no longer a sure defense against the might of the Kingdoms, and that they must preserve their independence by all means necessary. His words appealed both to traditionalist dwarven leaders and to the gnomes of Bailenoc, who had all seen the lack of concern of the Axish kings and the arrogance of the recently-crowned Tordithas. The five cities joined together to form the League, dedicated first and foremost to the preservation of its independence against all outside threats. This purpose has not yet been threatened, as the skirmishes on the border of the two kingdoms that would lead to all-out war broke out in the same year, and the current war provides the League with excellent leverage against the Kingdoms. Were either side to assault the Iron Mountains, they would not only open themselves to attack by their foe, but they would also lose their source of Gnomish fire-powder, the precious resource that keeps the two sides in balance.
