Shaakir Nawaz

Shaakir Nawaz is a notorious pickpocket in a complicated relationship with the Sharqawi town guard and a woman named Azza. He is frequently employed by Ciccis al-Hamidi because his nimble fingers can lift valuables as easily as they can plant them.
Shaakir is of medium height, his skin bronzed by the relentless sun. His light brown eyes are weary but also alive with mischief. He changes his clothes frequently, so as to avoid attention while pilfering pockets. He often wears a  threadbare hood to conceals his features, and a tattered cloak to mask his bulging toolbelt. His hands bear the scars of countless close calls: a knife wound from a rival thief, a burn from a guard’s lantern, and the faint tattoo of a cat’s paw on his wrist—a mark of his allegiance to Ciccis al-Hamidi.
Despite Shaakir's thieving talents, he is a generous man. He donates great sums to the Arrahi coffers in the Great Mosque and spends what little free time he has caring for a menagerie of animals that he keeps in a pen near his humble home. His network of informants rivals even Ciccis’. Shaakir knows who’s bribing whom, which merchant deals in contraband, and when the town guard plans a raid. 
The woman named Azza haunts Shaakir’s thoughts. He often finds her serving tea at the Silk Sands Tea House, a venerable institution built into the western facade of Al-Majlis Square. Thought Azza does not know Shaakir's true identity, they have spent many nights together. Her eyes are as sharp as her wit and he spends every hour of those precious evenings lost in them. Sometimes he will travel to Al-Majlis Square just to steal a forbidden glance at her.
