The Taqqadiyan Protectorate (Taw-kaw-DEE-yuh(n))
Formerly called the Sultanate of Taqqadiya, the Protectorate is overseen by appointed governors selected by authorities from Alandr, Estemar, and Kusafiri. Home to the largest desert, the most number of mountains, and second-longest coastline in Argea, Taqqadiya is a land of adventure and exploration. Until recently, its people were ruled by sultans selected from a rotating list of houses; a compromise chosen to prevent future racial conflict after a brutal civil war between 399-424 YGP.
In recent years, the sultan's power diminished considerably at the hands of interested third parties and insurgents. On the First of Budding, 1101 YGP, after the Meridian War, Alandr, Estemar, and Kusafiri split Taqqadiya up into six mandates ostensibly governed by Taqqadiyan officials. However, the real power behind these puppet governors belongs to Executive Governor Avlamir Daymantle.
In addition to the crisis brought on by the Meridian War, Taqqadiya also suffered from the effects of a devastating curse set upon the sultanate by Kugarin the Red as well as an insurgency of zealots called the Pharaonic Enclave. Perhaps someday this storied realm will return to its former glory. For now, however, it is bled dry by repeated crises and corrupt officials.

Religion
To the chagrin of the protectorate authorities, Arrahism remains the most influential religion in the region. While many in Taqqadiya worship Ilíos, few adhere to His Holy Church. Executive Governor Daymantle has quietly pushed for his territorial governors to bring the Church of Ilíos into each region.
Foreign Relations
Taqqadiya's neighbors long preserved the realm's existence by propping the sultan up with advisors, but the events of the Meridian War were catastrophic for the ailing realm. In the end, the realm collapsed under the pressure of a joint Estemarian-Kusafirian invasion, the violent Pharaonic Enclave insurgency in Mujawir, and Kugarin the Red's devastating curse.
On the 1st of Budding, 1101 YGP, Alandr, Estemar, and Kusafiri split Taqqadiya up into six foreign-administered mandates. Taqqadiya is no longer permitted to run its own foreign policy. That important task has been delegated to the mandate authorities and Executive Governor Daymantle.
Agriculture & Industry
Alandr is primarily an agricultural power but has a growing industrial sector. Peasants grow and harvest cereals (wheat, rye, corn, barley, oats), oil-yielding crops (grapeseed, mustard seeds), vegetables (potatoes, etc.), lumber-yielding trees (oak, pines, hardwoods), tree fruit or top fruit (apples, cherries, etc.) and soft fruit (strawberries, raspberries, etc.). The cities of Taqqadiya import much of their produce from the feudal holdings of minor lords and focus their production on artistry, textiles, fishing, seafaring, husbandry, tourism, and civil service.
Education
There is no institutionalized system of education in Taqqadiya, but education is attainable for almost every urban citizen. Protectorate authorities work tirelessly to bring education to the rural, desert folk. They have succeeded in establishing primary schools for Taqqadiyan youth in each territory, but most families are too poor to send children away to learn in the regional capitals. Private tutors are common among the middle and upper classes. The average urban Taqqadiyan has been taught to read, write, do basic arithmetic, and understand the major events in Taqqadiyan history (the Divine Crusades, the Taqqadiyan Insurgency, the Sacking of Seradhur, the Meridian War, etc.). Several prestigious universities exist in the country despite its otherwise subpar educational system.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure in Taqqadiya lags behind the Argean average. Most major infrastructure has existed since Akinuid times. All of the realm's major cities are outfitted with sewers, but they're poorly maintained and are prone to leaks, breaks, and blockages. Many sultans have made infrastructure a key part of their domestic agenda, but corruption and ineptitude plague the realm's civil service, and most funds are squandered. The Royal Road between Halanhur and Qumer is an exception to this rule, however. It was designed by Sultan Bayezid VI of House Vahdettin, the same architect sultan who designed and funded the highway between Alsafar and Tarand. Taqqadiyan towns and cities all have town halls or town squares, but their construction and maintenance are funded entirely by the local populace.

Currency
Taqqadiya utilizes the same copper, silver, gold, and platinum system as the rest of Argea's realms, but issues them with images of famous Taqqadiyan architecture. The face of each coin is stamped with the Taqqadiyan crescent and stars. The backs of the coins differ, however. The back of the copper piece depicts the Caeruleum Arena. The back of the silver piece is embossed with the Great Pyramid in Sultan's Rest. The gold and platinum coins depict the Baloshan Palace and the Mosque of Fortune, respectively.
Legislative Body
Taqqadiya has no legislative bodies. Even before the protectorate was established, the Sultanate was ruled with absolute authority by the monarch. Since the protectorate began, decisions are made largely at the territorial level by their respective mandate governors.
Judicial Body
The Protectorate of Taqqadiya is currently ruled by martial law. Citizens and visitors are not entitled to trials of any sort except those ordered by the mandate governors.
Executive Body
Each territory of the protectorate is ruled by a mandate governor. The governors are Taqqadiyan natives appointed by Executive Governor Avlamir Daymantle, who resides in the Baloshan Palace in Aswakur. Governor Daymantle was chosen by a committee of appointed officials from Alandr, Estemar, and Kusafiri.
