Aspect of Wishes
Cassiopeia is a servant of
Icae, one that has been around since pre-flood times. Born in what is now the
Eminent Territories, Cassiopeia was poised to be an
Archon level entity before she ascended. Widely believed to be the first ever luminari, Cassiopeia showed an unusual recalcitrance for a high elf, and chafed under
Dragonkind. It was this, combined with her magical heritage, that drove her to reach such magical heights that even Icae took notice.
Physical Description
Cassiopeia is in perfect physical condition like nearly all aspects. As possibly the first, and certainly the most famous luminari, Cassiopeia bears archetypal constellations and celestial symbols on her body. Most of her body is a soft violet, and a living firmament can be seen, twinkling and orbiting through her skin.
Since her ascension, Cassiopeia's dress mimics the star field in her skin; it moves as she walks, creating a slightly disorienting but breathtaking scene of the night sky.
Mental characteristics
Back when dragons ruled over everything, Cassiopeia was just another high elf. her peculiar skin and hair brought attention to her, but no one of importance ever considered more than a momentary curiosity. Cassiopeia spent her life under the claw of an adult brass dragon, and as a second class serf under the kobolds, dragonborn, and half dragons that lived in the area.
When she had free time, Cassiopeia practiced magic in secret, slaving over scattered notes and holding one dangerous experiment after another in order to control her magic. Cassiopeia was no wizard or witch, but a sorceress, with some sort of connection to the
Excess. Eventually, her magic developed to the point that she was able to teleport far away from anyone who would see her as a threat, winding up in current-day Silverpaw. From there, she developed her magic, exchanging tips and tactics with those who would eventually become archons. Her unique perspective on magic and the
Tide were invaluable to the burgeoning wizards, and their academic knowledge of magic helped Cassiopeia in turn.
No one knows how Cassiopeia went from mortal to aspect, but the most famous story involves her plane-shifting straight to the moon.
Cassiopeia has exactly one job: managing the resolution of uncertain spells. Cassiopeia started governing the wish spell alone, hence her title, however as time went on, she expanded to cover all uncertain spells. Any spell with variable effects, such as teleport, guiding light, chaos bolt, and prismatic spray all function as Cassiopeia directs. However, the most notable is the legendary Wish spell. She decides if wishes are granted, if the caster can ever cast it again, and exactly what a granted wish means. The criteria she uses to decide these factors are unknown.
Because she indirectly interfaces with mortals as a part of her job, Cassiopeia is reputed to be the source of all other luminari. Some disbelieve this, citing that whatever force made her a luminari continues to act. Those who believe this legend believe that Icae herself created Cassiopeia as a luminari, and passed that mantle down once Cassiopeia ascended.
Cassiopeia is independent first and foremost, preferring to work alone whenever possible. She tends to be rather unexpressive, maintaining an aloof veneer regardless of circumstance. While she was mortal, she loved discussion for its own sake, particularly about magic. Now, her position means few people can offer engaging magical discourse, though she still enjoys other topics to a lesser degree.
Due to her time on Argent, Cassiopeia has a humanitarian streak. Whether this is truly out of the kindness of her heart, or merely a form of altruistic spitefulness aimed towards dragonkind is unknown. However, Cassiopeia is a pragmatic woman first and foremost, and ultimately the lives of mortals are less important than her duties or the 'big picture'.
History
Both Ireri and Cassiopeia came into aspecthood during the same era, and thus they tend to get along well. Coming from two opposite shells, neither was aware of the other's existence until they became aspects. Cassiopeia's duty rarely brings her under the jurisdiction of Ireri, and so they have little friction between them.
Relationship Reasoning
Ireri holds her life as a mortal close to her chest, but Cassiopeia finds the circumstances of Ireri's ascension endlessly fascinating, and often prods Ireri to share her experiences. Ireri's flat refusal to ever divulge what exactly happened to her is a source of tension between the otherwise positive relationship.
Cassiopeia also believes Ireri is too forgiving of dragonkind, and that her willingness to ignore the treatment dragons gave to elves is immoral. Ireri believes that Cassiopeia holds too strong a grudge against dragonkind, and that the modern dragons shouldn't be held accountable for the transgressions of their ancestors.
Aside from these differences, the two elves are united in their duties, wariness of dragons, and mortal origins.
