Ireri (E-rare-re)

Aspect of Abjuration (a.k.a. Martyr of the Moon)

Another ascended mortal from the antediluvian era, Ireri is the aspect of abjuration magic. She most often takes the form a humanoid with features that half mirrors drow, and half mirrors faded, but she has been known to take the form of a moon dragon before the flood. Ireri, aside from presiding over the use of abjuration magic, is the most directly engaged in fighting any Outside influence on the planet of Argent specifically.

Divine Domains

Ireri has dominion over all abjuration magic, and she favors spells that seal or imprison creatures.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Ireri has one simple and obvious goal: prevent Outsider incursion. Her life as a mortal has ingrained a burning hatred for those who would use the magic of her goddess to invite otherworldly calamity on the world, and an intimate understanding that killing an aberration is but a temporary solution. Celestials who serve under Ireri often seal her foes (outsider or otherwise) away, banishing them to isolated demiplanes where their influence is contained.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Ireri can halt all magic around her, and her casting is uninhibited within that zone. She can also entirely prevent planar travel and teleportation within that zone.

Apparel & Accessories

Ireri wears many charms and bangles, each of which are enchanted with powerful abjuration magic. Rumor says that they each contain a powerful entity within them.

Personal history

Born as a cavern elf (now known as a drow) in what is now Veno'mia, Ireri grew up as all other elves did: under dragon rule. Ireri grew up radicalized against the reigning dragons, as her entire family was involved with the Bright Elves. She was raised to be resentful of the suppression of elvenkind, and to undermine dragon rule in small ways however she could. Knowing nothing else, she took that doctrine to heart.   As an adult, Ireri was welcomed into the inner circles of the Bright Elves, and was exposed to the terrible lengths the rebel organization was willing to go to in order to enact revolution. She was taught a new and dangerous occult magic that tapped into powers beyond the gods. She learned to warp reality, to conjure creatures from beyond the stars, to pull on eldritch powers beyond any understanding.   As the Bright Elves became more brazen and blasphemous, Ireri's confidence in their cause wavered. In the end, she herself fought against the efforts of the Bright Elves, and was rewarded for her sacrifice with Icae's blessing. She committed herself to fixing the damage the Bright Elves caused, developing new magic over the rest of her mortal life to contain, seal, and banish the last vestiges of the Bright Elves. Her tireless commitment and great deeds were rewarded with Aspecthood.   The full story of Ireri has become something of legend, and like most legends, there are many versions of it. One such legend is recounted in The Symbol in Space. These legends are constructed from hearsay and personal recountings of the remnants of the Bright Elves; the full story has been censored by Ireri herself, chained up under unbreakable magic and placed in the The Oracle's Archive, where no one but Shiwa herself can read it.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Either as her last act as a mortal or as her first act as an Aspect depending on which legend one believes, Ireri created the Seal spell. Later, when the Gods sealed Facit away in the Source again, Ireri assisted in designing and creating the prison that became the Source.

Intellectual Characteristics

Ireri is a private individual, keen on separating her mortal life from her status of an Aspect. She rarely reaches out to mortals, and when she does, it usually takes the form of protective blessings. She isn't one much for change, and advocates for caution and patience over rash decision-making and radical action.

Personality Characteristics

Personality Quirks

Ireri has a complicated relationship with dragons. While the propaganda she was raised under has lost its grip on her over the passing centuries, she still disdains dragons with overbearing, paternalistic, or otherwise superior mindsets or behaviors, and rarely will help them or work with them. At the same time, dragons who demonstrate a willingness to abstain from the lives of other mortal races (particularly elves), engage in asceticism, or otherwise avoid exerting their will on the world around them are in her good graces.

History

Both Ireri and Cassiopeia came into aspecthood during the same era, and thus they tend to get along well. Coming from two opposite shells, neither was aware of the other's existence until they became aspects. Cassiopeia's duty rarely brings her under the jurisdiction of Ireri, and so they have little friction between them.

Relationship Reasoning

Ireri holds her life as a mortal close to her chest, but Cassiopeia finds the circumstances of Ireri's ascension endlessly fascinating, and often prods Ireri to share her experiences. Ireri's flat refusal to ever divulge what exactly happened to her is a source of tension between the otherwise positive relationship.   Cassiopeia also believes Ireri is too forgiving of dragonkind, and that her willingness to ignore the treatment dragons gave to elves is immoral. Ireri believes that Cassiopeia holds too strong a grudge against dragonkind, and that the modern dragons shouldn't be held accountable for the transgressions of their ancestors.   Aside from these differences, the two elves are united in their duties, wariness of dragons, and mortal origins.

History

Draekor'natia represents everything Ireri hates about dragonkind. While Ireri has never had a reason to directly come to blows with Draekor'natia, she has made her distaste clear whenever the chance is given. Draekor'natia largely dismisses Ireri out of hand, and claims that her hatred is pathetically mortal in nature and in no way a meaningful threat to Draekor'natia.

Relationship Reasoning

Ireri is unwilling, either on principle or out of wariness, to attack Draekor'natia. However, she has often hindered those who support him by sealing away the knowledge of certain spells from his followers or bolstering the spells of his followers' enemies. On two separate occasions, Ireri has provided minor blessings to mortal dragons who wish to usurp Draekor'natia's place. Both times, the dragons died in their pursuit. Ireri never lets her disdain distract her from her heavenly duties, and thus has only used a marginal amount of her power for these acts.
