Dragonborn

One of the most well known intelligent draconic races besides the dragons themselves, at least in Sedden, are the Dragonborn. A mortal race heavily influenced by draconic magic in such a way that their body takes on the traits of one of the many breeds of dragonkind. Dragonborn origins, unlike most races, are traced to magic rather than to Liphan himself.    Dragonborn lineages begin when a mortal races undergoes a ritual that only dragons can perform, allowing them to turn a human or an elf into something new, a dragonborn. Dragonborn colors aren't a matter of choice, but happen naturally. Though it seems to be related to the personality of the mortal involved, it sometimes seems to be almost random.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Though dragonborn are incredibly similar to dragons, with matching horns or spines to their appropriate color, different breeds are formed with different physical manifestations of this, and this is carried through lineage. If one dragonborn has a tail, it's children will likely as well. The same goes for wings, and so on. All dragonborn have a familiar breath weapon, similar to that of their ancestral color, as well as physical traits like various shaped horns or frills.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn can only give birth to or impregnate dragonborn. Though they retain similar enough genitalia to be compatible physically with the humans and elves they hail from, only a dragonborn can bare the child of another dragonborn. If a true or half dragon would attempt to reproduce with a dragonborn, it is possible for the pregnancy to be successful, but the eggs will always hatch into dragonborn. Dragonborn with true or half dragon parents often find themselves neglected as mistakes.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn live lifespans much more similar to humans, rather than their dragon relative. Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

For the most part, Dragonborn cannot see any better than your average human, with the exception of some who managed to retain the trait from their dragon ancestors.

Civilization and Culture

History

Though most dragons consider the art of turning mortal to dragonborn to be something to be kept close and a privilege to keep for only the truly special, The Great Dragon Kagen, emperor of Kurai, has taken to dolling out the ritual like it was some form of medal. A vast majority of the worlds dragonborn, nearly 80%, originate at some point in their lineage from the lands of Kurai.
