Tabaxi

Tabaxi are a catlike race of humanoids who are prone to flights of fancy and exploration as dictated by their chaotic and curious nature. They are known for their speed and stealth, and make for excellent hunters, which is helpful given the necessity of the meat content of their diets.   Centered in the free-trade capital of The City of Drapes, Tabaxi culture thrives on novelty, and the free expression of oneself. Having spread across the shell in pursuit of their racial heritage of novel experience, Tabaxi are now found in both wild and tamed locations across Sear and in some cases even further. The Tabaxi people do not form a consistent civilization like many other races do, instead preferring to band and disband alliances as required to fulfill goals. It is really only in the City of Drapes that institutions of leadership and supply chains have been set up to last any considerable length of time.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid limbs, but hands are much finer and clawed, while the feet are paws, with the extended heel common to many lupine races or forms

Genetics and Reproduction

Tabaxi mothers often lead active and unhindered lives during the gestation period, before transitioning to self-isolation a week or so before the birth of their children. Tabaxi are often born in sets of two or three, though usually no more than two are identical twins. Fur patterns and coloring are both inherited traits, but conspicuous shifts in expression from parents to children are quite common due to the complexity of the expression of such traits.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tabaxi children are usually self-sufficient by the age of ten, and are functionally grown adults by sixteen or seventeen years old. Tabaxi will live much of their lives having great reserves of energy and speed, before rapidly declining into a relaxed and languishing lifestyle in the later handful of their years.

Ecology and Habitats

Tabaxi are comfortable in any habitat, from grasslands to rocky crags to cities. They often crave new experiences, and so varied landscapes and locales often suit them best.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like other smaller cats, Tabaxi are obligate carnivores. They use hunting for both sustenance and to rid themselves of the restlessness that is common to the race after it stays static for too long without new experiences or things to see.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Tabaxi form loose coalitions to accomplish tasks and solve problems, but these rarely last more than a few days outside of large organized societies or in the company of other more lawful races. Such partnerships are often involved with the pursuit of adventuring, which balances out the Tabaxi's need for novelty in such unchanging company.

Facial characteristics

Catlike mouths and sharp teeth sit below large piercing slitted eyes and pointed feline ears. Stripes in the facial region are often very fine and symmetrical, allowing for easy recognition by the pattern among members of the same and different species alike.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Tabaxi are spread throughout the civilized world, but are concentrated largely upon the hemisphere of Sear. They like carefree lives, and will generally move from place to place as the fancy strikes them.

Average Intelligence

Tabaxi are as intelligent as the average humanoid race.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Tabaxi have especially good vision in both the dark and light.
Average Height
4'10" - 6'6"
Average Weight
90 - 186 lbs.
Average Physique
Tabaxi are very lithe and powerful creatures, often boasting deceptive amounts of muscular power for creatures of such a size.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Tabaxi often have fur of a light to dark yellow variety, with stripes or spots of a darker near-brown color. Some have fur so dark that the stripes are difficult to discern, making the individual appear nearly black in coloration. There are some varieties of Tabaxi which have a linneage of grey-to-white coats instead of the usual yellow range, though their stripes and spots usually remain unchanged.
