Typical dishes include beef, pork, chicken, fish, root vegetables, tree fruits, pit fruits (imported), rice (imported), and spices (imported).

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Solassi admire soft beauty, flawless skin and radiant smiles being the most coveted features. The focus for beauty trends is most often the head, face, and shoulders, with a focus on adornment in these areas to emphasize certain features. To call someone a "shining beauty" or a "glimmering beauty" is considered a high compliment for all genders.

Gender Ideals

Solassi society is legally egalitarian. However, there is an implicit bias in terms of women being favored over men for jobs requiring intellect, as are men favored in more physically demanding or religious professions. Women are often favored for higher positions over men.   Gender neutral or non-binary folks fall into an interesting category of their own, neither favored nor disfavored. Rather, they assume whichever gender roles feel most suited, and legally, the government follows suit.

Courtship Ideals

Women are seen as the primary instigators of courtship ritual, seeking out men who may defer to them most graciously or those who prove themselves as good caretakers and lovers. Taking a lover is not seen as taboo before marriage, but talking about it is seen as crass.

Relationship Ideals

Legally, monogamous relationships are the only ones recognized by the Solassi government. However, polyamorous and polyandrous relationships are on the rise and are next in line to become legal. Men defer to the female perspective in household and family financial matters, but it is not uncommon for both the husband and wife to take on the responsibilities of the marriage together. There is a significant bias toward women being able to cheat on their husbands while men cannot cheat on their wives, though this practice is falling out of fashion by the time of Orithia's coming-of-age.
