River of Time

“Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. So enjoy every moment of your life while you have it." - A common saying amongst the followers of Tempus
Before the days of The Cataclysm during the First Age, surviving records indicate Tempus taught early mortals to view time as a river, and there are many scholars Tempus followers in the present day that believe that she was being literal in her explanation.
Common doctrine states that time is one of the most powerful forces in the universe, and flows through creation much like a physical river cuts through land. The river will always flow despite blockages or foreign objects dumped into the river, and while one may attempt to divert or reverse the flow of the river, the impact would be both negligible and disastrous at the same time. The water must always flow in one direction, as followers of Tempus often say, and The Great Clock is responsible for governing that flow of only one particular stream. This suggests the River of Time itself is beyond even Tempus.
While many theorists on Arkos subscribe to a theory of multiple timelines in creation, it is believed that these are mearly smaller streams that branch off of the main river of time that have little consequence. This begs the question of: How do we know that our timeline is the main river, and not one of the smaller streams doomed to eventually dry up?
