The Cataclysm
Regardless of whatever past, race, or culture you hail from, all beings on Arkos acknowledge the Cataclysm as the single most important event in our world's history, and in all the Realm's histories aside from their creation. If such an event were to ever take place again, it is doubtful that any life on Arkos would survive. - Writings of Arch-Bishop Ordo, 7th presider of the Oreion Holy See.The Cataclysm was the massive war between Ancients loyal to the Creator, known as the Prime Ancients, and those rebelling against him, later known as the Fallen. It is the most destructive and influential conflict known to mortalkind, spanning multiple realms, much of the cosmic sea, and the surface of the mortal worlds themselves, primarily Arkos. Seeing the mortal races as beings to be discarded or subjugated, the Fallen made a point to destroy most of them, leading to many major battles of the Cataclysm taking place on or above the planet Arkos. Beginning approximately 5,000 years after the dawn of creation, the conflict's end marked the beginning of the Second Age, and the rise of the common mortal races upon Arkos. Being a war fought by Ancients and their respective followers, its catatrosphic effects are unpallared and lingering scars can still be seen today in many parts of Arkos. While many of the rebelling Ancients were felled, ultimately resulting in a victory for the Prime Ancients, it took the intervention of the Creator himself to finally end the conflict, while not before the prime Ancients themselves suffered heavy losses. When the Creator drove his sword into the surface of Arkos to end the war and create The Wound, the act split the surface of Arkos into the continents it is now composed of. The act also served to destroy the empire of The Alphacians in response to the race's rampant arrogance and rebellion during the Cataclysm. While much of the war itself is still shrouded in mystery, many powerful artifacts remain on Arkos that owe their creation to the Cataclysm. Being as devastating as the conflict was, the event is responsible for the current state of Arkos, and the perceived abscence of the Creator.
