The Green War
In the year 997 3A, House Dawngrasp of the Oreion Inquisition to the north of Velant formally accused The Rovers of stealing supplies and livestock from Oreion trade routes. This nature of blaming was not uncommon, although things quickly escalated when soldiers of The Veiled Hand began moving across the border and imprisoning Rovers throughout the Emerald Woods. In retaliation, theRovers took up arms against the Oreion forces with their powerful druidic arts.
Feeling extreme pressure from the Oreion government, The Auric Wings and The Justicars of Velant took up arms against the Rovers, resulting in the Green War, one of the bloodiest, and quickest, conflicts on Velant soil. With the inclusion of Velant forces, the Rovers were hopelessly outnumbered, and the survivors fled deeper into the woods to attempt to survive as hunters and scavengers.
The toll on both the people and land of Velant as a result of the Green War was devastating. Sections of vibrant, wooded area were bombarded by magical artillery from both sides, causing its growth to be perpetually stunted. Dozens of Oreion, Velant, and Rover lives were lost. However, the toll it took was also of a mental nature. Public perception of both Oreion and Velant soldiers soured across the Kingdom. Several Justicars relinquished their title due to deep regrets for their actions, some suffering severe emotional breakdowns. A dark page of Velant's history, some suggest that the Green War proves just how far the Oreion Inquisition is willing to go to control magic and bend other countries to their will. Others suggest that it is a prime example at how weak-willed Velant has become in recent years compared to other nations on Arkos.
