Skylar Square
Skylar Square is an open, circular area, paved with cobblestone. The square is in the academic district, surrounded by a few dormitories and lecture halls.
The centerpiece of the square is a large statue of Vaughn Skylar, the first wizard. The school uses his lessons as the starting point for their classes, and they pay tribute to him with the statue, as well as a plaque, summarizing his accomplishments in his studies of the Arcane.
Plaque
See the majesty of the first Wizard. Vaughn Skylar (119-844) was born in the 4th generation of Arcanum, and was the first Wizard to truly innovate the use of magic. He used the Amulet of the Ages to preserve his life, and with this extended life, he created the Complete Study of the Arcane, which is the basis for the curriculum used in the Skylar Institute to this day. In the end, Vaughn gave up his immortality with his wife, Anabelle, and disappeared to live the remainder of their lives in peace.School Uses
The Skylar Institute uses this square as a proving ground of sorts, for admission into the specialized schools of magic. Each school has their own trials set up, most of which revolve in some way around the statue. If the trial is completed, then the prospective student is admitted into the school. If it is failed, then they are rejected. Because of this, most citizens will either avoid the Square completely if they can help it, or set up a chair and watch whatever trials might happen that day. Some of the trials can be dangerous, and others can be incredibly frustrating for an ill-prepared student, and either case is entertaining for those who choose to observe.Tourism
This is the main tribute to Vaughn Skylar in Arratha. As such, many Wizards from across the world will come to see it, though it is more a landmark that you visit if you happen to be in Vedy than it is a place you take a pilgrimage to.
