Crookford
Crookford is a small village on the road between Dunagan and Toadsong. As a waypoint and river-crossing on the journey between larger settlements it has more amenities than most villages its size. The majority of the population are shepherds and farmers.
History
The Death of Crookford
In 1551, a party of travelers arrived at the village to find every single villager dead. Most of them appeared to have dropped dead suddenly and without explanation, but many had taken their own lives. For the next few years, travelers avoided the abandoned village if they could. But it's a natural river crossing, so travelers eventually shrugged off superstition and returned. Local arcanist Agnes Pickles theorized that the horrific event was connected to nearby Mutter Hill: a hilltop ruin said to be haunted.
Points of interest
River Crossing
A shallow stretch of river lined with wooden planks provides the safest river crossing for many miles in either direction.
Mutter Hill
A rocky hill in the south of town, covered in overgrown trees that never bear leaves. Ruins of the old settlement and wizard's tower are still rotting away under the overgrowth.
Four Winds Shrine
In the center of the village square, you will find an obelisk shrine to Anemoi, the Four Winds. When travelers wander too closely to Mutter Hill, they often hear whispers on the wind and offer secrets to the shrine in return.
