Goliath

Giant-Kin

Goliaths are humanoid creatures carrying the blood of giants. Like other hybrid races, they can be created through the union of a giant and a sapient creature, but can also bear children of their own. That said, a direct spawn of a giant has not been seen in centuries. Goliaths have created their own civilizations, with extensive family lines.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Goliaths possess their giant ancestor's innate strength and constitution, being able to shrug off mighty blows by sheer will. They are typically 7 to 8 feet tall and sturdily built.

Ecology and Habitats

Goliaths are naturally acclimated to high altitudes, and so most Goliath settlements are nestled in the mountains that border Arxios. The largest village sits somewhere in the northeast, on the edge of the Frozen Hearth.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Goliath settlements are typically reflections of those of their Giant ancestors. A village is governed by a Jarl who makes most decisions for the clan. The first Jarl is elected by their people, and each proceeding Jarl elects a successor that cannot be of their family. If the majority of the village protests against their decision, they can force an election; A tournament of Strength, Wisdom, and Values that puts any who try through a gauntlet of challenges. The victor of this challenge is judged by all members of the village.

The Jarl may employ advisors of their choosing, and they are also assisted by a Seer, who speaks to the elements to divine prophecies for the village.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Goliaths are born with two names; A family name inherited from their ancestors, and a first name chosen by their parents.

When Goliaths come of age, the Seer reads their soul and bestows an honorific second name upon them. The clan then uses that name for most interactions, one would typically only use the first name for their closest friends or lovers.

Relationship Ideals

Goliath villages are quite polyamorous, though they accept monogamy as well. Family units are usually quite large. If tragedy occurs, leaving only one parent to a child or children, the entire family is adopted by the village, who raise the children together.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Goliaths are born with darkened birth marks all over their body, often vertically symmetrical or arranged in patterns. They believe these markings predict their fate or destiny, and so Goliaths in villages never tattooed their skin, out of fear of altering the future.
