The Firestorms

The Firestorms were the second attack of the alien beings known as the Ash Gods upon humanity following their arrival on planet Earth. The first was a massive, global EMP attack which wiped out virtually all electronic devices and plunged humanity into darkness. Mere hours later, the storms rolled across the world in massive tides of fire over a hundred feet high. These fires bored on without cessation, consuming everything in their path and reducing the entire face of the world to cinders and ashes. The smoke produced by the firestorms rose up into the skies and began the formation of the global ash cloud that would soon encircle the entire world. How the Ash Gods were capable of achieving such destructive power is unknown. What is certain is that the demonstration of might was effective, immediate, and nearly omnipotent. By the time the last storm washed over the world, nearly 75% of all human life had been wiped out.
