Lelilth's Altar

Lelilth's Altar started as an abandoned warehouse on the outskirt of Sarylin. Lelilth quietly took it over and used it as a makeshift hospital for the first decade or so after she attained godhood in 3819. The building was converted into a temple in 3836. Just over 1000 years later, the name now encompasses the original temple of Lelilth, the Crescent hospital and the Healer's University.

Purpose / Function

Lelilth's Altar is primarily a temple to the Sky Goddess Lelilth and as such welcomes pilgrims seeking to pay homage to the goddess or appeal to her to cure their illnesses. The hospital and healer's university were added later as hosts of trained and would-be healers gathered around the temple to ply their trades.   The temple - and by extension Lelilth's Pathway - promote fellowship among mankind and remind others of the sacrifice Lelilth made when she ascended.

Alterations

Originally a large empty stone-and-wood warehouse with no windows, the building was redesigned by High Priest Everd Rohir, a local highborn and healer, when he secured financial support from his family to expand this to become an official place of healing and learning dedicated to Lelilth. Large lancet windows with stained glass depicting the winged crescent moon of Lelilth along with her ascension to godhood were added to provide light to the temple. Later, the surrounding lands were bought and developed in a hospital and the Healer's University.

History

The first written records of Lelilth taking over an empty warehouse date back to 3821, with then Emperor Fargaud Kelarens noting in his Journals that the newly-ascended goddess had chosen to settle in Sarylin to heal the local populace, against the wishes of both the Imperial and Divine Houses for her to set up camp near the Asun borders to provide healing for the Ankaran armies.     Scholar and trained healer Everd Rohir set up Lelilth's Pathway in 3835 - a faith based on worshiping Lelilth and promoting honour, kindness and compassion between mankind, as well as encouraging people to learn how to relieve other's suffering both in mind, body, and spirit. Everd became the first High Priest of Lelilth as a result. He paid for, led and completed the redesign of the warehouse into a proper temple by the end of 3836 and continued to plough family money into the nascent faith   Throughout the Second Age of Darkness, Lelilth made a point to travel between her temple and the war fields to provide succour as needed while also keeping her fellow Sky Gods happy. After the banishment of the Nameless and the end of that age, Lelilth continued to roam the countryside for a couple of years before she settled in Sarylin. The High Priest of the time had a tower built to serve as mortal residence for the young goddess.
