Sarylin

Sarylin is the capital and largest city of Ankara. The city stands at the head of theKilham River, where Thorbury Lake flows into the river itself. Sarylin has been a major settlement since the Age of Faiths and was originally called Saryasque, which was founded by the Kenor Tribe.   Sarylin houses an estimated 45,000 people and is a major trade centre in Central Ankara and has also a long history as a meeting point to discuss diplomacy, sciences and the magical arts. It is the seat of government for the Griffin Empire. Sarylin is also a major land, water and air transport hub.

Defences

The inner city is surrounded by stone walls and a series of watchtowers. The outer defenses are comprised of a series of outposts surrounding the city at strategic points, including in Thorbury Lake itself, forming two rings around the city. These outposts are remnant of the Second Age of Darkness but some remain manned to this day. 518 trained warriors serve as city guards and a militia of 7366 can be mustered in case of attack.

History

The Kenor tribes settled the Sarylin area around the last few decades of the Upheavals. The village of Saryasque started as a resting point after traversing the Thorbury Lake. It grew into a trading post under the control of the Kingdom of Kenor.   A burst of wild magic in 950 AF levelled the trading post to the ground. Kenor rebuilt the town and renamed it Sarylin.    From 1394 AS, the tribes of Rana started to raid Kenor on a semi-regular basis. Less than 100 years later, the tribes of Ankiot invaded in turn and started to settle to the north and east of Kenor, causing many border skirmishes. With the rising threat of the Asun tribes, the leaders of Kenor, Ankiot and the Rana tribes agreed to an alliance and the Kingdom of Ankara was born in 1559 AD1 in what became known as the Treaty of Sarylin.
