Sondo Tribe
The oldest and most secluded of all the factions in Ilkatu, the Sondo Tribe may best represent the struggle between millennia of stability coming to an end against a more modern force.
History
There has always been some humanoid occupation of the northeast region of the continent, but what these people called themselves has changed drastically over the years. Originally, humanoids that found themselves outcast or discontent with the civilization brought on by Serphala and the Etani Kingdom found themselves gathering in the region. Eventually, Serphala's brother Legaku would rally these people and organize them into the Wamiro Tribe, and they would come to do war against the Etani Kingdom and Serphala's civilizations. However, the war proved to be extremely costly for the tribe, and Legaku, seeing them as weak and useless, disavowed them and turned his monsters against them as well. This would ultimately backfire against Legaku, as the remnants of the Wamiro tribe would ally with the Yarran Kingdom in order to push back the monsters into the Barren Expanse. From there, and following the Invader's War, various groups would return to the northeastern region to take advantage of its abundant wildlife along the rivers. Tribes would remain small and scattered, and while few battles were fought over land, there was little sense of cooperation or comradery. That all changed with the arrival of the Dhulwinite settlers and the formation of the Ilkatan Confederation. With word spreading quickly of another advanced civilization on the rise, many of the tribes began to seek out alliances with each other, eventually resulting in the town of Sondos being built as a central hub for travel and defense. In order to maintain their claim over their land, the tribes unified once more into the Sondo Tribe. In 5786, several battles broke out in Urqoan territory, and the Sondo tribe lent their aid to the Urqoans. The conflict would escalate to what is known as the Six-Year Skirmishes, which would eventually result in victory for Sondo and Urqoa. Afterwards, the Confederation would come to respect the Tribe's boundaries and maintain a state of tense neutrality.A City Made Out of Necessity
Sondos sits at the edge of Lake Kutjara not just for access to its resources, but also to expedite travel out from it via river. In addition, the bodies of water also serve as a natural defense against incursions from the south, the ultimate fear that brought the city into existence. Once a small clearing for the various tribal leaders to gather, it has since grown into a well-maintained stronghold that serves as the center for commerce and trade across the region. While there is some amount of barter done with people of Bastion Pass as well as the occasional Threshold merchant, next to no contact is made with Confederates. Forever wary of their presence, Sondos stands as the people's dedication to maintaining their ancestral home.To Protect Our Land is to Protect Our Future
