The Gods

Religion and the Gods are an important part of life in Astara. When gods walk the world, clerics channel divine power, evil cults perform dark sacrifices in subterranean lairs, and shining paladins stand like beacons against the darkness, it’s hard to be ambivalent about the deities and deny their existence. Many people in Astara worship different gods at different times and circumstances. Many people have a favorite among the gods, one whose ideals and teachings they make their own. And a few people dedicate themselves entirely to a single god, usually serving as a priest or champion of that god’s ideals.
Dozens of deities are revered, worshiped, and feared throughout the world of Astara. There are at least 12 deities that are widely known across the world, and many more are worshiped locally, by individual tribes, small cults, or certain sects of larger religious faiths. Certain gods closely associated with nonhuman races are revered on many different worlds, though not always in the same way as nonhuman races often have whole pantheons of their own.
Each deity has a divine rank, which determines how much power the entity has, from lowest to highest they are:

  1. Demigods & Djinni - They are the weakest of the deities, and are able to grant spells and perform deeds that are beyond mortal limits.
  2. Lesser deities - These entities can perform more powerful deeds than demigods can, and can provide a vaster range of influence.
  3. Greater deities - These entities typically have millions of mortal worshippers, and they command respect even among other deities. Some rule over pantheons of other deities.
  4. The Architect - the one, original creator of the universe, said to have been the father of all life and all gods.

The Architect

During the ancient times of the first Era, at the beginning of all life and our universe, it was said that a vast celestial being made of energy struck their magic hammer and created the first "Big Bang", the spark of all life as we know it. The Architect is often represented in ancient and contemporary culture as a spiral symbol. Little to nothing is known about the Architect or if he even truly existed, as he has no apparent presence in modern days, however its widely considered the most substantiated creation myth that stretches across many cultures.
