Orcs

Greenskins. 'Chosen,' as they call themselves.

The Chosen only have one true city- Al'Zar. It lies dead center on the south continent- right on the border between lush jungle, and the Great Desert   Besides those living in Al'Zar, the Chosen are a nomadic people. Clashes between warbands are common, though it is actually rare that a warrior is killed. Though they are efficient, savage fighters, inter-clan warfare is primarily done using dulled training weapons. There are enough dangers in the world, they don't need to add each other to the list as well.   To the Chosen, one thing trumps all: Beauty. Their architecture is brilliant; perfect, symmetrical. Perfect arches, perfect cuts of stone, perfect spacing. Their armor is exquisitely crafted, often of gold, clan markings prominently painted on pauldrons. Marks of rank across the back. Ornaments on helmets. Their weapons of the finest craftsmanship, runes on blades, perfect weight, length, perfectly honed. Their cloth of the finest silks, in the most vibrant of colors. Their ships made of the finest woods to be found in their jungles, with more time spent on the minute details than is even necessary. And all this, they hide.

Deceptive Origins

Long ago, when the Chosen first met the elves, it was a coastal camp, and most of the warriors were away on a hunt- only the fledgling warriors remained, with their very basic armor, having not earned the honor to beatify themselves. They recognized the way the elves looked at them: disgust. For an intelligent race that values beauty, the Chosen are ugly, and their language is harsh. So the elves saw them as primitive, brutish beings. The Chosen realized they could use this to their advantage, and decided to promote the idea that they are simlply brutish, savage creatures.   So they practiced, and today, they are masters of illusion magic. Every piece of orcish equipment has an illusion enchantment, attuned to the eyes of all but the Chosen, to appear rough and poorly worked. The Chosen see their beautiful craftsmanship, and the rest of the world sees a primitive brute clad in makeshift armor.

Culture War

To the Chosen, martial prowess is nearly as important as beauty. When a warband meets another warband abroad, tradition dictates a battle, followed by a feast. Rarely does a warchief fall, but if one does, their warband must pay tribute to the victor. A warchief who has claimed the trophies of 5 other warchiefs, earns the right to challenge the Great One, warchief of Al'Zar, in single combat. Should he be victorious, his warband takes control of the city. Should he fail, he must collect another 5 before being allowed to challenge once more. In this way, only the strongest shall rule.   The warchief of Al'Zar has the most power; it is he who controls the manufacture of all equipment, he who controls the agriculture of the Chosen. It is he who calls for raids.

Honorifics

The Chosen attach honorifics to an orc's war name.
  • A warchief adds the title of Cho' to the beginning of their war name.
  • The warchief of Al'Zar, the Great One, adds the title of Choksar' to the beginning of their war name.
  • The warchief of the Shah-Hallan warband adds Cho to the beginning and Ans to the end of their war name.
  • The warchief in command of the Outpost on the Bog places their title, Cho, at the end instead of the beginning of their war name.
  • A warchief's second adds the title of Ne to the beginning of their war name.
  • A trained mage adds Zek to the beginning of their name, and their apprentice adds Zak
The Orc word for "Chosen" is "Choksari"
Warband Warchief Details
Tash  Xurug Cho'Tash Controlled Al'Zar for nearly 100 years, until the passing of Xurug's father, Zagul Choksar'Tash.
Kar Trush Cho'Kar'Ans Second youngest of the warbands, the Kar have been a rising star for decades. Their first warchief, Shah Cho'kar, is the namesake of Shah-Halla, and was a major proponent of human-orc relations. They are the resident warband of Shah-Halla, and as such they hold the second most political power among the orcs.
Kora Murbol Cho'Kora Have controlled the Rok'Ar mountains for over 200 years. They are the wealthiest, with the most gem-adorned armor, as they control the flow of resources to the forges.
Zora Ragash Cho'Zora
Ash Ulmug Cho'Ash Seem to have a higher natural affinity to magic than the other warbands.
Tra Derthag Cho'Tra
Zosh Rurbag Cho'Zosh
Nash Bula Cho'Nash
Som Gulrn Cho'Som Youngest of the warbands. Still have much to prove
Tora Wrug Choksar'Tora Current greatest warband, and controllers of Al'Zar.
Mose Mudagog Mose'Cho Weakest of the warbands. They man the Outpost on the Bog, a most unsavory fortress. It is customary for any warchief travelling north to have a duel with the Mose warchief; should they lose, they will gain control of the outpost, and the Mose will continue on whatever sent them north. The Mose have been in the bog for 90 years.
