Shah-Halla

The Western Point

Shah-Halla was originally founded roughly seventy years ago, following the signing of the peace accords between the United Cities and the Orcish Warbands after over a hundred years of conflict. Named after an orc war leader named Shah Cho'Kar, who strove for peace before being brutally murdered by a human for "posturing aggressively." Originally, the intent was to build a community from the ground up, combining aspects of both cultures.   Though early relations were rocky, the original settlers were finally able to set aside their difference when conflict arose with the various animal-folk tribes in the area. After they had been driven out, the city quickly developed into your standard city with just a touch of orcish flair.   Roughly half of the city's currently population are first generation immigrants, as Shah-Halla has developed a reputation as a 'land of opportunity,' where space isn't a factor like it is in the other cities. Anyone can find meaningful employment, even if it is just in the ganjwana fields, and there is no taxation. On the ruling council, all species have equal representation, so decisions are made with the city as a whole in mind, rather than an individual or group of individuals making decisions for their own benefit.

The Arena

The arena on the west side of town is the biggest draw to the city. No other city has one like it; though it is orcish architecture, even the arena in their capital of Al'Zar cannot compare to the sheer beauty and magnificence of Eclipse Coliseum. With space for more than ten thousand in the stands, the city runs on Eclipse ticket sales. At least once a month, and often several times a month, Twitch brings a menagerie of creatures gathered from all around the world, to do battle with one of the various groups of warriors on his payroll. Every now and then, he is able to field something seriously impressive, such as the flaberdoodles he regularly deploys as a test to prospective teams. These events tend to gain a buzz in town and draw large crowds.   The largest event of the year is the Summer Tournament. Thousands come from all around the world in order to fight in or spectate this tournament. If you want to see the greatest warriors that the cities have to offer, this is where they will be. Though originally intended as a means to determine orcish succession so far from the other warbands, orcs are never ones to pass up a challenge. If the final round comes to an orc versus anyone else, common courtesy is for the other to concede, for technically winning the tournament deems you the greatest warrior in the city, and entitles you to leadership over the Kar warband as well as their seat on the council.

Recent Events

  • Twitch has recently come by a new team, who have made it farther in his challenges than any before. The people love them, and have even grown bored of some of Twitch's other teams.
  • A growing [Humans Against Orcs cult is threatening to destabilize decades of peace.
  • Bandits in the Causter Forest have hurt trade with Aliastra and Bermuda, though trade with Citadella via the Wall is booming.
  • A recent outbreak of gnome streaking has the council concerned about the effects of caffeine and sugar on small bodies

Once a species achieves 2% representation in the population, they are granted a seat on the Council of Species, and thus an equal say in the ruling of the city.   The military presence on the council is almost entirely ceremonial; though Kazmuk voices his opinion on most matters, he regularly excuses himself from votes. The human seat has always been held by an 'Oak; Roan'Oak, grandfather to Harren'Oak, was one of the founders of the city. The orcs hold a yearly tournament to determine their representative (and, consequently, their war lord for the year). The remainder of the representative species hold internal elections on a regular basis.
