Proxima Centauri
✹ • ◦ ) ⦾....... ⦾. )
Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star with a contingent of four planets and an outer cometary disk. It is the closest star system to Sol, and while technically a gravitational subsystem of the Alpha Centauri binary, it is so distant that it is typically listed as a separate system. Proxima is the home system of the Calypsians: a low-temperature sophont species native to Calypso, the sixth moon of Atlas.
Astrography
Location
Proxima Centauri lies in a very wide orbit around the Alpha Centauri binary system in a 550000-year cycle. It is currently just over 4 lightyears from Sol, placing it very close to the approximate center of known space.Structure
Proxima Centauri is, as a component of the Alpha Centauri system, a solitary red dwarf star orbited by four planets and an outer debris disk. The two innermost planets are separate from the outer system by a large gap, filled by a scattered asteroid belt called the Proxima Belt. SYSTEM OUTLINEEcology
The Proxima Centauri system is the origin point of Calypsigenid lifeforms, from the Atlantid moon Calypso. Calypsigenids are a unique group of organisms that utilize liquid ammonia as a solvent, and rely primarily on a hydrogen/methane metabolic cycle rather than the oxygenic cycle.Archive Data
