Wishborne Hold
The rightful land of the Kellina family line, this was stewarded by the connected Altredo family during the disappearance of the familial heir Tiberius Kellina. Having lost support of it's various allies at it's disappearance, the hold suffered a slow dilapitation due to insufficient funding and political limitations enforced upon them.
Other troubles too, had plagued the hold in the intermediary time. Rot within the grain, and rust monster infestations had made it troubled such that when it's True master returned, it was done with blade in hand, and beast below to tame the lands owed him.
Purpose / Function
The WIshborne Hold is the familial house of the Illiana family, passed onto them along with their title of duke. This is not it's sole purpose however as it is also the training grounds and spiritual home of the Shields of the Valorous Guardians, a knight order created and upheld by the aforenamed Fortis and his trainee Ferrous.
Architecture
Regular blocks of Coquina stone laid ashlar in the castle walls give the island castle a rather unusual coloration, as the softer lighter stone gives it an appearance unusual for the standard imposingly grey monstrosities that can otherwise be found. The walls is built like a shield around it's people, and whilst it fully speaks to a military mind, there's a certain openness to the construction which invokes as much awe in it's inhabitants, as concern in it's foes.
Defenses
Whilst one would believe that being made out of a softer stone might be a cause for concern, the walls ability to soak up artillery fire and similar barrages make it so that they are impermeable to being shattered, allowing a force to many them almost indefinitely, with inner areas being constructed of harder stone to prevent a single shot from overly damaging the fort itself. Many Arcane sigils exist Throughout the walls themselves, allowing it to be manned by the many shield bearing knights who live within the fort, and for them to protect the wall as if it were another ally or companion.
With such a heavy defensive focus however, marksman within this knight order are less common, instead prefering the usage of heavy machinery and thus this fortress comes equipped with various siege weapons meant to dissuade attackers from a persistent assault.
History
Wishborne hold has had a troubled history, originally to be granted to the Illiana family, it was cared briefly cared for by the Altredo family following the 50 year disappearance of it's heir, Fortis Illiana. Consistent monster attacks and troubles with the land made it challenging for it to maintain itself, and resulted in a slow dilapitation.
In more recent years, Fortis Illiana and his Trainee Ferrous Starreader have returned to the castle and purged the infestations from the land, and with the two of them training a knight order, there is some hope of lasting wealth, as the increased promise of safety along the roads has drawn an increased number of merchants to the walls, and careful plotting by Ferrous's wife has made life significantly more stable for it's inhabitants.
