Daggerford

Daggerford was a small but consequential town located in a vale just east of the current Forest of Cormanthyr border and the Nyr-Dyv. While it was primarily a farming community, and considered by some to be a stopover town, the town had great ambitions to grow and be seen as an alternative to their northern neighbor of Verbobonc.   Originally an elvish town named Crìochan, it was abandoned during the end of the Merithic Era and humans quickly conquered any who remained, and installed a royal bloodline to rule out of the castle.   Throughout its storied history, Daggerford's dukes and duchess claimed the lands from as far away south as the Uriu Ras. In truth, the duchy comprised the town proper and the surrounding farmsteads that numbered around a score or more.   Despite its many setbacks, around the year 3000 the town experience a major boom when the current royal family, the Salians, were put into power.   The current Duchess of House Siegler, Lady Camilla, does not reside in Daggerford as of Circa 4115 SE, when she married her husband Rufus and moved in to his keep in Hommlet. She isn't a stranger in Daggerford, taking frequent trips and vacations with her husband to the families Castle Dagger at the center of Daggerford.

Government

Oligarchy. Since the founding of the Kingdom of Dougger around the year 920 SE, by Tyndal "Daggerford", the town was governed by Dukes through Tyndal's family line.   Around the year, 2382 SE, a town charter was granted by Duke Conan, leading to the creation of the anonymous body known as the Council of Guilds, modeled after the Council of Merchants in Carcino. This was quickly abolished 3 years later during a revolution, in witch a member of Tyndal's bloodline was placed upon the throne.   c. 4100 Medieval Era, a long descendant of Tyndal still sat upon the throne as sovereign ruler.

Defences

In addition to the Duke and his/her personal guard, Daggerford maintains a standing militia. It comprised the town's citizens who were healthy enough to serve, regardless of gender or race. Those who were not required to serve were those who were too young or too old, women who were pregnant, and women who were raising young children.

Industry & Trade

Due to its location, Daggerford became a vital military hub for its region of the Cormanthyr Forest. It was the site where goods moving on ships traversing the Run could be transferred to caravans journeying along the Low Road or vice versa. The waterways of the Run at Daggerford are too shallow for ships to continue upriver into the rest of the Forest and the Nyr-Dyv.   While Daggerford emulated the grand, western Metropolis of Verbononc its trade services are somewhat limited. While it attracted its fair share of travelers, prices for local wares are often significantly marked up.

Guilds and Factions

After the establishment of guilds, each type of guild was maintained by a Guildmaster, even if it was only a single town representative, to ease trade between cities. They eventually formed into the Council of Guilds during the SE, and many of them amalgamated into a fewer number of guilds in the later years.
