Printing

No technology since writing has so impacted the growth and development of civilizations as did the invention of movable-type printing. Woodblock printing had been used for thousands of years by the elves. This spread eventually to the dwarvish homelands but even still books remained expensive, and valuable possessions only for the erudite elite and the eccentric.
With the invention of the printing press came the widespread growth of common language across the world, as well as ideals and stories.
