Down, Down to Goblin Town

General Summary

In the aftermath of their battle with Filster and Tholok, the party took their share of the crime lord's treasure. While looking around, Erevan noticed that one of the paintings in Filster's collection contained a depiction the last moments of his grandfather, the Déonian High Battlemage Erolith. Soon, the party was met by Drogath who congratulated them on a job well-done. He told the party that after a little work he would be fully in charge of the Black Rose Crew, and would begin preparations to merge with the Tracery immediately. He told the party that if they needed to contact the Tracery immediately, they should ask around at the High Ride Casino in Kassleg.   He then discussed with Lethe the possibility of working together on an arcaltium side hustle. He freely gave the party five raw crystals from his stash but wanted to hold onto the rest; however, if Lethe could provide him tangible proof of a way to use the crystals he would be willing to part with more. He also warned the party against being indelicate with the crystals by showing them a grisly sight. In a side room of the gang's hideout were the remains of several people, fused together into a bloody mound of flesh. Drogath said they had attempted to cut one of the crystals down, but it had shattered and let out a deadly surge of raw magic. If the party were interested in cutting the crystals down, he said, they would need to seek out a highly-skilled gem cutter. He recommended Kara Diamonti, a dwarfish jeweler in Einstap.   After leaving the gang's hideout the party headed back to the Five Brother's Inn for the night, but not before Lethe snuck into the church graveyard to dig up a corpse to add to his skeleton posse. In the morning, they used their newfound wealth to stock up on health potions before investigating the goblin cave a beggar asked them about the previous morning. Before leaving town, Lethe stopped by Jee-Kai's store to purchase disguises for his skeleton squad.   The trek towards the goblin cave was largely uneventful, but as they approached the location they spotted movement in the trees as several goblin scouts kept an eye on them. Near the entrance they could see goblins on a ledge high above, attempting to hide in preparation to ambush the party; the party however was able to make swift work of them through ranged attacks. As they entered the cave, they faced far more goblins than anticipated. While the small creatures initially proved to be little threat to the three warriors, eventually their numbers and skirmishing tactics began to wear them down. Their backs to an underground ravine, bombarded by arrows and swiftly running out of magical reserves, Lethe desperately began casting the spell Tiny Hut so the party could have a chance to recover. The others gathered around him to protect him from the steady stream of arrows as he worked on the ritual. Due to the time required to cast the spell both Erevan and one of Lethe's skeletons went down under the onslaught. Eventually, the spell was activated and Erevan was able to be revived. Safe within the dome, the party began to lick their wounds and prepare for what would come next.
