Dullspray Moor
Summary
Mardo tells the party that the spell that brought him into Faerie separated him from the Spire. In searching for it he wound up in the Prince's service, but he learned from his time in court of a powerful foreign magical source deep within Dullspray Moor. Given the way people talked about it, he deduced it had to be where the Spire wound up. Lethe reveals the Ring of Hayward's Tomb, and say it had been specifically enchanted to siphon off the Spires' power. Ferdinand says that place is cursed, inhabited by a corrupt dryad known as the Weeping Witch. It's said the Witch was once a dryad from the Flowerfields, until her twin sister was tricked by a manipulative mortal who bound her to an island in Mundane, stole her power, and became the King of Crows. The Weeping Witch sought a way to get her sister back but in vain, eventually settling in Dullspray Moor where her grief and desperation caused the land around her to rot in despair. Few who enter the moor ever return. He will not enter the moor but dispatches a carriage to take them to the edge of it. Alongside Mardo, the party enters the moor. They encounter an eladrin and a rabbitfolk in a staring contest. Aberchak makes the eladrin flinch, who attacks him in a rage. After the fight the rabbitfolk thanks him, saying that the two had been in a staring contest. Later along the way, they encounter the body of an owlfolk mage. A nearby quasit inhabits the trees nearby, who they soon realize to be the mage's familiar. Aberchak befriends the quasit and names him Ripley. They then encounter a large troll named Happy, who was tasked with guarding the Weeping Witch's location. They are able to talk their way past the troll, who accidentally reveals the witch's name of Nesymine. Eventually the party reaches the location of the Planespire, finding it embedded within a massive ball of viney, thorn-covered tendrils. They come face-to-face with Nesymine, who recognizes a familiar scent on Aberchak. She reveals herself as the twin sister of Mellaniphe, a nereid Aberchak had encountered in the past. Angered and untrusting, things nearly come to blows before Aberchak pledges himself to Nesymine and swears to help recover her sister if she would let them get to the Planespire. Nesymine agrees to this bargain and becomes Aberchak's warlock patron. With the way to the Planespire open, Lethe steps forward and finally uses the Ring of Hayward's Tomb to drain its power and leave it inert. With the roadblock keeping them from returning home cleared, the party prepares to return to Ferdinand at his manor.Chapter Forty-One
