Rod of Two Moons

The Rod of Two Moons is a short staff inscribed with ornate filigree of alabaster and gold depicting the phases of the moons. It is one of the mystical artifacts known as the Apotheon Relics.

History

The Rod of Two Moons was created alongside the other Apotheon Relics, and contained a divine spark from the Foretold Champion Liadon. It was considered one of the most powerful and sacred of the Relics, and was kept in a position of reverence within the Grand Temple of Liadon in the Déonian capital city of Estariol, where it was presumed lost amidst the Moonshattering.
It was later discovered that in his final moments, the battlemage Erolith had shattered the Rod and absorbed its divine essence, giving him the strength to break the moon and call down its fragments to destroy the armies of the Ajokai Empire. This divine spark fused with his mortal essence, transforming Erolith into the celestial figure later known as the Guardian .
Many years later the shards of the Rod of Two Moons would be discovered by Darien Lothar, who through communion with the Guardian was able to reforge the Rod and restore its divine essence.

Features

Dormant State

• The wielder gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls made with this weapon
• Targets damaged with this weapon take an additional 1d6 radiant damage. This damage is increased to 1d8 with the weapon is wielded in moonlight.
• When a shapeshifter is damaged by this weapon, the target must succeed on a DC13 Constitution saving throw or immediately revert to its true form.
• The wielder can choose to have this weapon shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet (no action required).

Awakened State

• The weapon's bonus to attack rolls increases to +2.
• The extra radiant damage dealt by the weapon increases to 1d8 (or 1d10 in moonlight).
• The weapon's DC against shapechangers increases to 15.
• The wielder can use an action to assume a mantle of moonlight, becoming a spectral Lunar Aspect for one minute. While in this form, the wielder gains resistance to radiant and necrotic damage and a flying speed of 60 feet. This ability can't be used again until the wielder finishes a short or long rest.
